If it's a single use material, and you have little or no call to make the item, don't hoard the material. It's actually rather simple.

Outside of Culinarian, I'm able to hold all the necessary HW mats on one retainer, with some room for multiple stacks (things like Adamantite Ore and Aurum Regis Sand that get used a lot) and the occasional ARR material as well.

I'm always being asked by friends and FC members to make various things from leve items to GC hand ins, leveling gear, etc. There are a ton of mats I don't stock simply because its not worthwhile (especially if I can buy it easily from a vendor) but even then I still use up 4 retainers in crafting materials.

For someone who mostly crafts only high end items, I can see how what I am saying wouldn't apply as much but for those who are a major crafter in a moderately large FC with a lot of different crafting demands the range of items we need to keep stocked is much higher.

Edit: I understand people who DoL want new shinies to gather, and I would not want to deprive them of that, but I really would like to see them recycle more of existing gatherable materials in their recipes and cut down on the number of one-off materials you only ever use once (looking at you ALC and CUL especially)

In terms of other forms of bloating like "buy scrip tokens, to buy favor items, to gather other items to then trade in for even more items before you even start crafting anything with them"; why could they have not allowed us to have a cap of 2000 like esoterics and just have us spend scrips directly on favors (or some other system for gatherers that doesn't take up 12 slots of favor tokens) instead of having crappy space wasters like scrip tokens. Same for unidentifiables, precision alex items, etc, etc

As I stand looking out from my window, I reminisce about the old days and the many ups and downs of my adventures throughout Eorzea.
It is then that I know achievement.

Generally speaking, especially if it's got a rare or expensive material, I tell whoever wants something made what the materials required are, and let that person provide them. If it's something I've got plenty of on hand (like the most recent request, a level 58 Aiming ring) I don't mind just whipping it up based on what I've got on my retainers, but if it's something more exotic, they provide the mats or find another crafter.

If they want a set if items made for Leve hand ins, especially in bulk, their mats or nothing gets made.
