Mainly holding aggro in mobs. I know that gear factors into that but even then I don't feel like flash or circle of scorn are that great aoe wise for taking back aggro

Paladins technically have the weakest aoe in the game, the idea behind Paladin tanking is that you use your aoe for initial hate gen to ramp up, then you mix in your combos alternating targets. But gear is very important for keeping hate, you should always gear up your weapon first
