Went into Ramuh HM (no not EX) just trying to help a friend clear it. One of the tanks was a GLD (a damned GLD!!!). Everyone in the PT does a collective WTF and asks the GLD where their soul crystal was? Says that GLD is superior to PLD because you can use all the cool dmg buffs from DRG and MNK. Other tank is a PLD and starts laughing/raging at the guy. In the end PLd solo tanks Ramuh in Sword Oath and laughs at GLD. Don't know if the guy was trolling or serious, but gods it was bad. Got the clear though ^_^

It would be great if the original classes were viable too. I prefer the concept of a GLD to PLD.

Had a pretty fun run yesterday of copperbell. Me as Drk, a Sch and Arcanist grouped up cus he was a green leaf and needed it, we get in with a rouge who also is new after a few pulls we ( me and SCH) kinda decide not to explain mechanics and such, were gonna let them learn and have fun, just give hints. Let them figure out the firesand and detonator.

So first actual boss I just tell them to save the bomb, took a few mins and several "pointing" emotes for it to click with them. Finally last boss I say nothing and they worked the basic mechanic of kill adds that were destroying the wall with no issues. Ended up with the only commend too but they both said they enjoyed it. I honestly think we are leaving bad tastes in newbies by force feeding them info on low dungeons.

Every time the main tank acted like I shouted Banana Hammock in church because id voke oppressor off him and of course .5 would stack bc he wouldn't move north. Even after I explain the simple mechanics that is the easiest tank swap in the game so far, 9/10 the mt would still want to do it the wrong way, as if grabbing a moving target and wrestling for aggro is much easier than keeping oppressor in the south, OT vokes for and easy pick up, dps do not have to move, and all the MT does is run north, hell hit autorun if you're that lazy. Finally rage quit the grind with 2 token bolts still needed, but I just couldn't deal with the thick headed nonsense any longer. Please DF tanks, learn the mechanics.
On my second relic, and I have never seen anyone try to do it with the method I think you are sugesting.

If it is better or not doesn't really matter. The fact that it is not the common method makes it worse for df when poeple are grinding out relic. If it causes one wipe you have probably lost any time it saved in a whole.day of grinding, which makes it worse.

But from what you are saying, I understand you are trying to do the savage style tank swap when they are tanking at the south end rather than the common north end. If the tank takes it south I would never consider it anything but a troll attempt to take it off of them, especially without communicating it first.

If you are attempting a method other than the meta, you need to communicate it first or risk wipes. Communicating it takes more time than it saves, and ond wipe costs more time than it saves.

Also, I've never had an issue voking .5 as it leaves the ramp.

Seconded, I have tanked so many runs of A1N I'm surprised I don't have nightmares, and standard procedure for duty finder is to have the off tank pick up .5 when it appears.

Good Point, what was I thinking doing it the right way in DF, tbh I usually only run it with my FC, and we tend to do the fight the way it was designed. Since I need to run it, calculating in beast tribe dailies, probably 180 times to get the items i'll need I must succumb to running it with strangers. I agree, I don't have a problem provoking .5 off the ramp as OT, I just don't understand how common procedure goes against the grain of the fight's mechanics. Seriously, the MT has full aggro of .5, so why swap that target when it's easier to swap Opp, and there is no dps loss either than the MT autorunning north.

I never tanked A1N, but I plan on doing so in the future, and to be honest... I don't see a difference between "the MT stays with 1.0" and "the MT picks 0.5" as they have full aggro on both 1.0 and 0.5 as soon as the latter appears... someone explain me what's the point here please

Sure! at about 40% hp, the Oppressor summons his twin, dubbed .5, which spawns in the north of the arena, announced by this rainbow coloured orb that oppressor casts. At this time, whoever has top aggro(hopefully the MT) also has top aggro on .5. The proper way to do the fight is to have Oppressor pulled to the south, the MT and OT swap Oppressor, and all the MT has to do is run north, and begin whatever combo he opens with; really whatever he wants because the MT automatically has top aggro. It's probably the simplest tank swap in the game.

When Alex Normal was released, we started to bring the Oppressor to the South side of the arena (opposite to the door where the .5 will appear from) on the initial pull. When the door opens and the OT gets the .5 Oppressor, it would still walk towards the MT for a couple of steps before walking back to the OT.

We thought that this was quite annoying, but it worked nonetheless.

Then, we tried to do it the other way, were the MT tanks the Oppressor where it stands and when the door opens for the .5, the OT would Provoke the Oppressor form the MT and take it to the south side of the arena. Since the .5 Oppressor will have the same amount of Hate on the MT as the regular Oppressor did at the moment it spawned, the .5 will walk directly to the MT (who’s still standing near the door).

By doing it like that, the OT had more time to Provoke the Oppressor (instead of waiting for the .5 to become targetable and use Provoke, resulting in the .5 to take a couple of steps towards the MT before deciding to go after the OT) making the transition more smoothly the one we did before that.

You can do it either way. It’s up to the party how they want to do it. Suffice to say, not everyone feels the same way about that.

I recently EXDR'd into Saint Mocianne's Arboretum and had a tank that... seemed like he wanted to get banned.

So, initial circle goes down and I start to cast Protect. Tank runs off without waiting. Okaaaaay.. I can Protect him later. He begins to proceed to sight aggro the first three packs. I found it unusual how he was only doing sight aggro but just shrugged it off and chose not to heal him until we get to the final wall. He gets there... then sits perfectly still. I pop Tetra, all the monsters turn to me and eat me like the little morsel I am then proceeds to eat the rest of the party. Wipe.

    Oooooookay.

Respawn, tank runs off again. I leave him to his own devices at this point, watch him die again. The two DPS and I pick up the first pack of mobs and begin to burn them down in a hilariously funny enmity shifting engagement but none of us die as we kill the pack. At this point, the tank respawns, sits on the bridge leading up to the first pack of mobs and stands there waiting.

There's some passive aggressive exchange between us but since the five minutes haven't elapsed yet, we can't kick.

After the first pack is dead, he runs ahead and pulls the remaining two packs in the same fashion as before. I pull the two little bulbs back to us and we burn them down. At this point in time, since we hit the 6-7 minute mark, I initiated a vote dismissal for Harassment and got the tank promptly booted.

The three of us begin to report the tank but for some reason, two of us disconnect after we submit our report (what a funny coincidence, lol). One of the DPS has a FC/LS mate join as a tank and we proceed through the dungeon without much more incident but good nature banter and had to pause for a bit as one of the DPS was talking with the GM when we got to the honey tunnel.

First time I've had to deal with a tank in that capacity but sadly they were not the most ignorant tank I've had to deal with. Heh.
