A large number of people complaining that they had to spend a lot of money are going off MB prices. The MB has taxes.

Taxes are removed if you buy an item from its home nation (IE: If the retainer is gridania, go to gridania and you won't have a tax).
So still, this isn't a gil sink in the slightest. As I keep telling people you can do the whole step completely for free, it just requires to not be lazy, gather mats, and talk to people. (Though I'm aware some crafters will charge you for their time it's still never that much..)

Implying anyone who bothers gathering the 80 unidentified items in the first place is "lazy" is, in my opinion, a little off. It's a pretty big grind in it's own right, if you were "lazy", you'd just stick to your eso weapon and wait 'til something better comes around.
the step is still for free if you gather the mats and know 1 or 2 crafter, no forced gil sink involved
The seller (of the items and/or mats for the items) is still taxed on the profitsTaxes are removed if you buy an item from its home nation (IE: If the retainer is gridania, go to gridania and you won't have a tax).

*Sigh* You just don't get it, apparently. 2 to 5% tax is so minuscule that calling it a gil sink is laughable, especially since using the market board isn't required for this in the slightest.
A gil sink is a REQUIRED cost to be spent that does not go to another player.
Then why are these people complaining about market board costs? If they weren't lazy they wouldn't have a problem getting all the mats themselves and having it made.
Also, since other people are saying it: IF ANYONE HERE IS ON HYPERION LOOK ME UP AND I WILL CRAFT FOR YOU. I can make Kingcakes and Titanium Alloy Mirrors. Also Blessed Fletchings, which are used to make dispelling arrows (I think).

2% of 6 million is 120,000 gil. There are estimated what like 500k players? Let's say 10% of them do the relic, so 50k, let's say 50% of them buy the mats so 25k. (These are random numbers for the sake of argument) 25k x 120k = 3 billion gil. Seems like a fairly decent gil sink to me.*Sigh* You just don't get it, apparently. 2 to 5% tax is so minuscule that calling it a gil sink is laughable, especially since using the market board isn't required for this in the slightest.

Taxes are a gil sink, the same as teleporation costs are a gil sink. Teleporation is not required to play the game, but people use it for convenience - as they do the Market Board.
I don't like that you keep calling me lazy. It's an aspect of the game that I abhor and have no desire to take part in it. Is there a part of the game that you hate with a passion? Then why are these people complaining about market board costs?
