    Well, since FFXIV's release, a lot of computers have a hard time running the game with minimal lag. It's simply a matter of being a major process for most consumer grade computers.

    Now I realize that FFXIV doesn't have nearly the playerbase WoW does, so that means that you won't have problem of hundreds and hundreds of feathery yellow butts in your face, but still when you have larger concentrations of people grouped up (lets say Ul'Dah), especially on higher population servers, I can see why the devs might want to avoid this issue.

    Just my two cents.

    The problem is mostly network lag, not PC lag.

    agreed, network lag is a HUGE problem.

    those who live a considerable distance from the servers see this more than often.

    heck those who live within a few miles still see network lag when there shouldnt be any.

    the biggest problem with lag is that SE made everything server side instead of the more mundane things like menu's and npc's ect client based.

    the most noticable lag example, retainers.

    exchanging items from retainers is a long and slow process. this could be minimised by making our retainers client side.

    when exchanging items and adding things to the bazaar the changes are "stacked" client side and when we exit the retainers menu all the changes are sent as a list to the server where the changes are then made server side to keep up.

    that would help with lag on retainers.

    Biggest problem I could see with allowing chocobos to be ridable in cities...

    Sometimes it takes a few seconds/minutes for a player to load on your screen. In the meantime, you could be standing right ontop of them with your giant yellow friend, making them unable to work out what colour the orb is on their leatherworking table.

    Why does FFXIV have to be like every other MMO and allow mounts in town. Go play those other damn MMOs then!

    Yes, let's add even more lag in towns by doubling the population with chocobos.

    Until S-E invests in a real server structure and figures out how to optimize code, we do not need more crap running around in the towns.

    Y'know what it was really?

    Gridania has a lot of low hanging branches, and insurance doesn't cover head injuries.
