what ? Your saying a level 1 dragon should destroy a level 50 player while a level 50 marmot should not harm a level 1 player.

Sound to me as if someone is making a failed attempt to apply there personal scewed perspective of the graphics of a creature onto its abilities and stats.

While there should be a clear difference in the stats and ability of different families, if the level 40 eft is stronger than the level 40 marmot and gives more exp than why is that marmot considered to be level 40? It makes mob families very unbalanced, makes knowing what to fight difficult, makes the mob's whole level worthless, nothing more than an arbitrary number rather than a representation of the monster's strength.

But shouldn't the effort put in also reflect the level of the mob?

For example, using the mobs above:
A marmot is small and fast but not as strong as the eft. Its attacks do less damage but come at a faster rate than than of the eft, its speed also gives it higher evasion in comparison to the bulky slow body. Two mobs, two different families, two different fights but the overall fight should be balanced.

Thank you!!! You both nailed this.

When I con a mob, it should reflect a level of difficulty in relation to my rank. If the current rank 30 mole is easier than the current rank 30 raptor, then reflect that in a reduction in the mole rank, or an increase in the raptor rank - it's a pretty simple concept.

For those of you that think this makes the game too 'vanilla', not so. Certain mob families will be more/less conducive to fighting depending on your class. Bones parties from ffxi come to mind, or manaburns, etc. I'm not at all advocating this uniqueness be eliminated, just a standardized SP vs. difficulty for all mobs in the game.

Get back to me when you get around to balancing every monster in the game to be just as "Hard" as the next one. Some monsters are weaker than others, even if you level them up.

Then again I guess in some worlds people think a rank 30 marmot should be able to stand toe to toe with a rank 30 drake. Think of it as monsters having tiers outside of just their rank. Just like a gimped rank 30 will do less damage and last nowhere near as long as a pimped out rank 30 player!

Marmots are the gimps of the monster community.

Did you read the last part? Within Level range situation. L2R.

And for your point, all the NM/bosses need to be level 300+, and they are no longer NM/boss but just another high level mob.

In many MMORPGs not just FFXIV, instanced dungeon mobs are vastly overpowered compared to open world mobs while being the same level as a mean to encourage partying.
