As tragic as this is, I wouldn't want to see any sort of change or addition to the game made because of Ms. Blake's passing. Both because it feels ghoulish and exploitative to turn a real-world tragedy into video game content, and because I dislike the precedent it would set. I've seen people asking for memorials for lost FC mates and current events like the Paris shootings last year as well. I don't want to play a game full of morbid memorials that have no place in a fantasy world; I want to play a game that lets me not think about the awful stuff that goes on in real life for a while.

Regarding said partner mentioned in that article, he ran off to Ghana, and will be extradited back to England to face murder charges.

    Then go play another game.

Final Fantasy XIV isn't just your preferred form of escapism, and there are millions playing the game just like you. Many of them may have lost friends to real life tragedy, and that small digital memorial might be one of the only pieces they have of them left. At least for a time.

    Let them be.

    Harsh words...and feelings...
You don't feel lonely at all for the soul of the departed, to be left in a digital world only to see people pass you by...

Starting to sound like broken record player.

If SE spent development time, manpower and server space making memorials for every real-life tragedy that happens, there wouldn't be time for anything else, and the game would become a creepy digital graveyard. And what happens to those memorials when the servers are inevitably taken down, some day hopefully far in the future? If you lose someone in your FC or friendslist, it's okay to have a player-run event for the people who knew them, but when you start asking SE to expend resources on it you're getting out of hand. Even worse if it's NOT someone you knew personally; a person's death shouldn't be exploited to get free stuff in a video game.

If you absolutely MUST have a digital memorial, why not go make your own game and name a character after your friend?

Im sure they had to know that before it even come out of their mind to even comment. What's worse is when ppl put this shaming tactic if it doesn't go their way as if they know the person when they don't.

That's not necessarily true. World of Warcraft made a Robin Williams tribute when he passed. Granted, she may not have been as famous, but she played a far closer role in FFXIV then Williams did with WoW, as far as I know I think he just played it from time to time.

They should just add some kind of "remembrance spot" where people who wish to do so can pay tribute to those who pass away--people related to the game, either by friendship or their work/influence on it.
