I currently have 18 and was thinking about going for a mainhand tool next reset. But then again I don't know whether that makes any sense.

If it helps you to get 2 star capable, then by all means, go for it. If it helps you to craft the i170 tools for the other classes, then by all means, go for it.

Technically speaking, the extra craft/control on the i180 tools, compared to the i170 tools, may not matter all that much compared to the 4 cup you can stick on the i170 mh. If you are not at a point where you can shave off a Progress step, then more Craftsmanship is not doing you a bit of good. Control is the same way, only it is less obvious (due to the way crafting works). CP, while *also* the same way, at least has its tiers 18 points apart, not 50+ points apart.
