what in this patch is more flashy and eye catching than that? think about someone who has not played the game. Abolition of physical levels, a slotting system etc, these are things that mean nothing to you if you are not involved in the game, they are subsets of gameplay. These things mean a lot to people who play the game, but virtually nothing to people who do not. Materia is likely adding nothing flashy to the game at all at this point.

I agree with the OP. Square Enix' marketing strategy in the West does not make an effort to counter the seeded opposition to the game already in place at the Game News outlets. These writers gave the game a thumbs down; their ego, and the viability of their opinions are at stake. Chances are they are invested in not seeing it succeed.

In order to change their attitude towards the game, SE should start a promotional campaign, give them access, stroke their egos. Unfortunately, this is the way media outlets work.

when they are ready a big media push is important, but they still dont have enough in the game to put this game on the above avewrage side, so they should probably wait till then. If they reach that point, then all publicity will be good publicity

The reviews are fine, but the audience for both those sites are some of the most ignorant people I've ever met. They think that when you spend millions on a game you should just scrap it first week if it sucks. They're the same people who hated on XI for no reason at all, having not played it, they simply just didn't like that it made you think or group up with people in any fashion. What's the point in having an mmo section of gaming sites or mmorpg.com when target audience wants online solo player games :/

Every now and then on mmorpg.com there's a forum for "old school games" and EQ and FFXI gets mentioned on how we should have games more like that, but you never see those sages anywhere else on the site, only the ignoramus WoW crowd (idk even know if we should use WoW anymore it kinda seems like we're hokey old people, WoW is kinda dead too, need new mass game to hate on people for)

these reviews don't seem that inaccurate. Murugan, I admire how strongly you feel of this game but I think you may have a little too much blind faith. The truth is chocobos and airships have been something people have been pining for ever since ce release more than anything. No matter how you look at it, this game is not ready for positive press yet because it simply does not deliver.

It's just these websites doing filler news. SE doesn't get real coverage and instead gets quick skim read reports due to the company not being a financial contributor. Sad, but true.

That's why you see the headline of patch 1.19 being delayed. That letter wasn't a hard read by any means, but they still got the facts wrong. That pretty much sums up how credible their website is on information.

I've seen mmorpg.com and ign both report things blatantly wrong about XIV before also, I wonder if they get news from round about sources, they could just make an account for XIV and sneak on the forums and check the lodestone haha. I've seen stuff like adding new race in 1.18, when it was just female roegadyn.

i dont give a damn about english gameing journalism cause unless its "ZOMG MASSEFFECT!!!11!" they say it sucks anyway 99% of the time, specially japanese games recently, not enough bald muscular space marine types in them i guess
