    Indeed...

If people want information on an MMORPG, surely the most sensible thing to do is visit the game's website and check the news there first hand?

As for reviews and ratings, I can partially understand why people would want a site for such things. However, even these reasons are somewhat redundant when most MMORPGs these days have free trials for you to personally try the game out before making any decisions with your wallet.

In summary, the people who visit these sites for info are just purely lazy.

The game and the development team have taken so many hits from the gaming community, I doubt one more is going to damage things to the point of no return.

Maybe you just don't understand how people digest information. Bad press like this is reinforcing negative attitudes towards the game, and is a poor introduction for anyone who has not yet formed an opinion. It doesn't have to be this way, they just need to generate some positive or balancing press. All these sites are reporting on is Chocobo's and Airships and a delayed patch... so release to them something more than that.

Something like the beastman video (they ran a whole article pretty much just featuring a Chocobo video...), the escort quests, the linking/chaining system, future plans, etc.. Anything, and if they don't report on the information you give them then offer them an exclusive.

There is no such thing as a "hands off approach" to information management, it is called professional laziness. It is sociological ignorance.

that's why i take informations directly from the companies/game site or atleast a fansite only.
you can't learn shit about games on those half assed gaming sites anymore, perhaps 10 years ago, but not in this age and day anymore.
even fanblogs have more accurate informations then those big awsome looking gaming sites.

Perhaps you should write to the sites concerned, giving them all the information about 1.19 they should have had then?
You could make up for SE's laziness and 'sociological ignorance'.

Maybe I did already. Maybe others should too.

IGN does not have a news tip submission.

Mostly though Square Enix should do their job and ensure more information about the game gets out other than "chocobos and airships".

It's been "cool" for English-speaking media to hate on SE for a long time now.

MMORPG.com is a completely different animal though. They blatantly do these to trigger a response from a fanbase to drive site traffic.

For instance, a one-post account just happened to show up at ZAM forums and post a link to a "rereview" on there days before 1.18. Not only did they insinuate that absolutely nothing changed since release, but they also ignored to mention the upcoming series of updates that they quite obviously preempted.

Back in the day, G4 would go out of it's way to make it seem like XI had no players and that main cities were empty.

The truth is, English gaming media has taken to covering things in a popular way. They know more people will read a cheap shot at XIV than a well written update.

Every time MMORPG.com reports on FFXIV it becomes one of the most visited games on the site.

Ign's review of FFXIV, and many stories about FFXIV were "popular stories" on ign for weeks after their release.

People pay attention to FFXIV because it has pretty pictures. IGN/MMORPG.com report on FFXIV because it has pretty pictures and people read it quickly scan the articles for particular keywords and pictures/videos. These are businesses, yes they have a slant against the game, but that doesn't mean Square Enix should ignore them at only their own peril.

That is an extremely childish reaction. Hopefully Square Enix is a little more professional than that, or at least not so stupid as it.

MMORPG hates all mmos except those who spend alot of money on advertising on their site. They are the same ones that completely slammed XIV before 1.18 for the "rumored" changes of auto attack and addition of companys and dungeons and the extremely low chance of any change in direction of the game from launch.. all which where being changed 6days from the published release. That site already proven they have no integrity when it comes to online journalism basically reviewed the game without playing it or reading anything into it.

The other site is not as bad but then again they picked up on like 1/20th of the 1.19 update so it is not really representing anything either.

This is sorta the same thing as last time, 1 week before a massive patch and everyone talk like nothing major is happening and it is a lost cause. Basically the US media is trolling the game more or less.

Either way it is very obvious most US outlets have written the game off as a failure with no chance of recovery, so I highly doubt the reviews will ever change.

I think square should release info and counter what those sites are saying, because alot of people are watching this game despite what troll say. And alot of people well are honestly stupid enough to visit those site over sites where people are actually playing the game.

    Mostly?
That IS Square Enix's job. It's not our job to make the game popular, it's theirs.
We already paid money for our CEs and Standard Eds (most of us did anyway). I know I won't be writing to any sites unless SE personally sends me cash.

As much as I want this game to succeed, we shouldn't feel coerced in to being volunteer PR workers.
Not only that, these sites will realise SE isn't doing their job properly at all when it's the customers giving the sites all the information. This will more than likely cause them to write more negative articles on SE and their game.
