Are the Devs aware of the unlocked core for PS4? And will they use it?

Title says it all. 2 months ago, Sony unlocked the 7th core for developers. And I wanna know if SE devs for FFXIV are one of them? If so, what tiny changes could they use for it? Yes, I said tiny due to the core being a CPU thing. I assume they could work with it on the UI or easy connection with the Ps4 OS. Or any of you have more insight?

The PS4's CPU really isn't a limiting factor of FFXIV's UI, it's the amount of ram available on the PS3. As for connecting to the PS4's OS, I have no idea what you mean as I haven't seen a game do that other than the already integrated features. What you could expect is more stable performance, but barely so. The PS4 struggles to maintain a high FPS in crowded zones or 24 man raids, they're not about to make it struggle more.

It's been said many times, but the PS4 doesn't utilize DX11 nor could it as it's a Microsoft "product". The PS4 has its own low-level API which is more efficient than DX11.

The PS4 may not utilize DirectX, but the primary engine developed by SE does for portability reasons. Otherwise you'd see much wider gaps between PS4 and PC effects and performance.

A quick Google search will tell you that this is not true. The PS3/PS4 versions of FFXIV use OpenGL, which is entirely different to DirectX. The reason you don't see as big of a performance gap is because the engine is built with that in mind and designed specifically for the hardware, just like all good console games.

Stuff like that is why a relatively low spec console (low spec compared to gaming PC's at least) can still output amazing graphics on par with the best computers. Fixed hardware is easier to make games for, because you know exactly what's in it. PC's can be all kinds of Frankenstein's monsters, with different CPU's different memory, different graphics cards and so on.

I don't know what PS4 you seen struggling in 24 man raids but mine runs as smooth as anything. Even in S Ranks hunt I've never seen it struggle.

Thats when I realized you weren't being serious. My PS4 handles 24 man raids perfectly, also always one of the first people to pop in. What you talking 'bout?

From 60 FPS in a quiet zone to 30 FPS in a middle of a raid is struggling to maintain it's intended experience, but I'd guess if you were a primarily PS4 player 20-30 FPS is more than good enough. The constant FPS drops is the reason I dropped the platform harder than I'd drop a rock (well, I kept it for Bloodborne but even that suffers from severe issues, both loading and frame rate but it's the only choice for that game :l ).

Explained in the other posts, we have different standards. Regardless, any visual improvements will make the performance worse. If it's a question of performance over a small visual upgrade, then performance is the best option unless you want an FFXV on XONE situation.

Its more about PS3's half a gig of ram effecting stuff like character customization or amount of items in the inventory at once, or other UI elements due to them wanting to make all versions equal. The limiting factor on stuff in the game isn't the PS4 its more the PS3.
