I don't understand where you're getting that idea. Won't you still have to do all of the job related quests? Starting at the bottom and working your way up the bard chain?

We take it as a granted that certain jobs "just go" with certain weapons - for instance, we simply assume that Dragoons are all proficient with lances. What's wrong with the idea that the bards of Eorzea just prefer bows? I don't understand the resistance.

I figure that, if ARC and BRD are truly related - we were just simply unaware of their preference until now (lore-wise, anyway. A retcon is a retcon).

Well, frankly, Ranger never really meant "fights at a range," anyway. A ranger ranges over an area, as in travels and guards it. In FFXI, sure, they were known for their bows, but their primary weapon was a dagger.

So, by that logic, the ARC guild in Grid is already made up of Rangers? >_>

Pretty sure they're the ones who guard the Black Shroud area, versus the LNC guild that guards the actual city. Unless I'm misremembering it myself. . .

lol pointless Ranger discussion is pointless. Learn to like the idea of the lyrebow. If not, then I guess wait for the next set of jobs to be released and hope for Archer getting something like Sniper.

If the Barcher is real, I would see it as essentially what Red Mage was supposed to be in XI...a Buff/Debuff specialist with very good DD.

In XI, Rdm was nerfed (by mean parties) to Refresh Whore but could solo stuff effectively whereas Bard and Corsair were really just worse versions of Rdm.

In XIV an Archer who can Buff /Debuff and still do Ranged Damage is actually my Dream Job both for Parties and esp for Solo. If I can Enfeeble enemies and Buff myself as well as party members, I will be the Red Mage Ranger I always dreamed of in XI. (and I like to sing. I go to Karaoke Bars with my Dad when I visit. ;>P )

can say ohh but CON could DD and Support!!! why shouldn't Archer be able to do the same...
I'll reason with.. CON DD and Support is Both ... "wait for it".... Magic! Spells to Do dmg or spells to Support.
however uncool that combo happen to be is irreverent (very uncool btw as the only thing it does well is Support)
it can be reasonably be-leaved because it is a Magic class Using Magic to do both dmg and support.

Jobs as advanced classes.. but rather pt focused versions of the class it was.. but if you take something like archer then make it become Bard.. it's not even in the "kinda same" area.. that's turning archer into something it was never before.
ergo it's not the same class or just a pt focused version of the class it was before.

Mar >war/drk? (idk) either could work I guess

^ this all, makes since.. these classes all continue to be the same at there base

^this is what I expect from SE, to keep archer the same at it's base and then give it more specific party function

I guess they just got sick of Archers dealing the highest damage while staying way out of harm's way.
You may call it an extension of their role, or a nerf.
