I think a fair flipside to this discussion is that if healers have so much downtime to dps, is the healer mechanics in FF14 lacking?

Its a quite fair argument by a player who chooses a healing role that they chose that role cause they wanted to heal, not dps. Some people play healers because healing is what they want to do. If we are in a situation where their presence is, according to some people, borderline unnecessary because of the lack of healing they actually have to do, leading to them standing around for ages, it suggests that perhaps the challenge presented for healers is lacking. A role shouldn't require you to play another role just keep engaged.

Again, in a Expert dungeon that has been going 40 mins no dps has the right to tell a healer he isn't doing enough dps.

yeah...too many times i've seen heals get carried away trying to dps or be the new tank in a group cuzz they dont like the way we maybe going or whatever the reason is and us tanks die from it i'm sure there's quiet a few out there that have had this problem imo healers should stick to healing unless were just dealing with a few mob leftovers and they dont need to worry about tank hp at that point and have toss on a regen

Im not saying that isn't the case, but if they removed cleric stance from instances I would need to start watching Netflix or something to get through them. I would just find it so boring to be unable to do any meaningful DPS in dungeons.

You can still DPS. The point of disabling Cleric Stance is to not remove the individual DPS skills healers DO have, but to put more pressure on DPS to perform optimally without assistance from the healer. Yes your DPS won't be as high, but if you have downtime you can still throw out damage spells between heals.

i never really have this issue in DF, and i don't play any healers - but i'll have to agree, DPS spells are there for a reason, same reason those self-heal skills are there for deeps and tanks

but if you just plain aren't comfortable with stance dancing, then that's fine - last thing i'll do is force that

"Not as high" being 22% of what it used to be. Meaning completely negligible in the games current state.

Without cleric stance a healers damage is pretty much meh. I would probably just pick a different class to run dungeons with and stick with healer for raids if they removed cleric stance.

The only "challenge" would be having content pump out damage so big and fast that you'd HAVE to be healing at all times....which would also get monotonous fast.

Monk not use mantra?
Bards should not sing.
Astrologian should not use their card?

1) Yes, he SHOULD use Trick Attack.
2) Mantra is useful, but optional.
3) Part of his role is to support the group.
4) Most of their abilities are focused around the cards.

So, yeah, from a WHM perspective, should I heal? Of course. Should I dps? It's optional. In that case, why does no one ever ask why a NIN isn't using Mantra? Hmmm!

Camon... if your healer only wants to heal, thats fine cause they are a healer... pull more mobs then, give them a reason to only heal. Its a dungeon ffs...

You can get mad all you want, doesn't change that it can and has saved from wiping a few times for me.

Yet many other games are able to create healer gameplay which doesn't ask the healer to dps. Infact I never once saw this topic even mentioned in all the years I played WoW. This only seems to be an issue in FF14.
