Try it... you might be surprised. At the very least, it should keep you from falling asleep.
The real issue is:

waiting on them is the safest bet. Appearantly, there was someone waiting on this SAME FATE in thanalan. Me, in my infinite wisdom (Read: Silly misclicks) had my tab set to my RP tab, whcih only shows: Tells, Say, Emotes, and FC chat. It's a pretty nice chat log when I'm RP'ing, but not when I'm out in the wild.

Some guy was appearantly running around doing the FATE's in the area. Looking at the log, it looked like he had been at it for about 10-20+ minutes, trying to help the fate spawn earlier.

And of course, as soon as the fate spawns, you know how us DPS are. "DPS DPS DPS" and jump on it, mrudered it in less than 30 seconds.

Full credit was nice, but that guy got screwed by me. And there are plenty of people who will do it maliciously, with full intent of "My time is more precious than your time."

The FATE system is bad. The QUESTS attatched to FATE's are even worst.

Your idea is good in theory, if you were the only one there. But the simple fact of the matter is, leaving the fate leaves it open to being cleared out before you can get there. Especially with the numbers it can reach during more active times.
