Largest shield wins. But also be aware that the way crit functions with adlo and succor is different. Crit adlo = 2x crit value of shield. Crit succor = crit value of shield. So adlo that crits for 1000 will shield for 2000, succor crits for 1000 it shields for 1000 (figures chosen for clear demonstrative purpose, not reality).

Also as said above, Noct.AST shields will overwrite and galvanise effects. However if you are on SCH and you have a Noct.AST healing partner, well that one hell of a stupid ass AST. Slap them and tell them to stop being stupid. Noct.AST does not synergise with SCH at all and they should be in Diurnal sect.

Edit: ignore the stupid on succor overwriting adlo (was thinking about those silly astrologians always overwriting galvanise)

So this being the case, when you crit on an adlo, you do not want to overwrite it with succor. Basically you dont want to be overwriting adlo with succor at all if you can help it.
It's literally impossible to override an adlo with a succor unless you were in cleric stance when you casted adlo or something, the bigger shield always stays. Good post otherwise though.

Well, just to be contrary, (namely because it's at that point in the night where my brain is tired enough it wishes to point out random facts), you COULD override Aldo if it's taken enough damage that the Succor shield will be enough to be considered more than the remaining Aldo. From a fresh start on the other hand, it MIGHT be possible to use a Crit-Succor to override a non-crit Aldo if there is some sort of healing potency up on the target that got activated after the Aldo, but before the Succor......

Because I'll have 10 seconds left on Galvanize after doing Succor and I can recast it and I'm pretty sure it still applies to the people. Seems like only if Adlo is on someone, or if I've just done Succor then it won't. I was thinking maybe it had to be under 15 seconds left before it would renew the duration but haven't really tested it a ton.
You could have just tried it yourself in game or drawn the conclusion based on an earlier post that pretty much described the only rule tied to Galvanized effects:

Oh, sorry I missed that. Nothing matters but the strength of the shield. Granted, I'm not exactly sure how ast/sch shields mix (I know they both don't stack, I assume though, that if an ast shield is stronger then it will overwrite sch shield and vice-versa).

The reason you sometimes see the shield overwrite and sometimes not is exactly because of the shield strength. There is like a 5% variation on heals/damage, so from time to time you may have a stronger shield on one person but a little bit less on someone else, when you recast Succor it overwrites the weaker shields but not the stronger ones, regardless of duration left on the original shield.
