Reward?
Isn't helping the meta be better at their jobs reward enough?

Would agree. It was one of the things I liked about how wow did their end game mechanic system in WoD by not allowing you into certain parts until you cleared a part of training for that specific role. Although it was late, it was still good. I doubt SE will completely lock people out of content until they progress through it though but here's hoping.
If the mentoring roulette gives experience equivalent to the low level roulette and lets me group up with friends then I'm totally in. I've just managed to get a co-worker, his wife, and a friend of theirs to join. If I can get that chunk of experience and help them level at the same time that would be good for me. I've got classes to level to 60 still.
Edit: I'm not saying I'd also like a Senpai title but I wouldn't say no either

Depending on how they implement it this could go very badly... sounds good on paper but then you bring the community into it and the whole thing just goes downhill from there.
Wish they'd just implement the trust npc mechanics. This is a good step in the right direction, but having some npcs outside other areas would be helpful for those who enter the game without 1 or 3 buddies. friends could come after or during dungeon timesI wonder how exactly the mentoring system will work other than pairing up expert players with newbies (isn't that what the DF sort of is now?) I'm willing to help others, but I'm afraid other people will only do it for the shinies and might belittle newbies who aren't getting things right.
Even though I'm far from a newbie, I'll check out the training hall myself just to see how it is. Might be interesting!
You mean NPCs assisting you in fights? Sorry, but even NPCs we do get to assist us in quests are dumb as rocks; like your chocobo, everyone uses the same AI and make no attempt to get out of a telegraphed AOE.
My main worry is that the mentor system is going to be abused, people claiming they are mentors and not helping new players at all or abusing it just to reap the rewards/benefits if any. I hope the devs see how its going to be abused or the mentor system is going to implode in on itself and it'll just be another 'Great concept, poorly executed' deals.
Don't see any problems with the actual Novice Hall though.
