Whilst this would be great, and could draw heavily on FFXI's Wings of the Goddess expansion, this likely won't happen for a long while yet. There are some more immediate issues that need to be dealt with over the next couple of expansions. This might be the sort of thing we'll see after the current main scenario has concluded.

Agreed, the next expansion will definitely deal closer to "home" I suppose, given how predictable (still good) the story is being so far. Probably after 2-3 more expansions they'll try their hand at the whole time travel thing, plus they'll have more content to work with.
