They are called personal chocobos, but the banners on the chocobos make them "company chocobos" in reality.

Future choco breeding for true personal chocobos is planned no doubt.

My guess is that enough players yelled "MOUNTS NOW OR /RAGEQUIT" that reality was changed.

No large project can ever avoid the quality triangle rule.

This game was released early because SE valued time and cost over quality (completion). Oddly enough, many players are acting in exactly the same way.

    We have the same choice:

    Pick one to suffer:
    • Cost: pay to play - get stuff faster and a better content
    • Time: wait for changes - play for free [for now] and and better content
    • Quality: weak content - play for free [for now], get stuff fast

    I choose to be patient.

You are right! I tired myself by repeating, here and elsewhere, "The world is too small for chocobos... it will seem even smaller after they're introduced... people will get bored faster and desert even faster... stop the madness!!!" But no... Then I added... "Well, if they're adding chocobos after all, and airships, at least give them time to develop a nice, deep, layered system and the quests to get us there..." But no...

An Ancient Greek saying went something like: "Each city has the theater it deserves." Well, I paraphrase to say that many among the audience of these forums, mainly the loud, entitled, shallow ones, seem to be pushing for the sort of game they deserve, and we will all suffer the consequences.

They've already stated mulitple times that the airships and chocobos would be constantly fleshed out as time goes by. Its not like we're going to just get this and be stuck with it, any more than us being stuck with the current classes or current class skill sets.

Eventually we'll be having airship specific content, pvp in gladiator arenas, our chocobos aiding in battle, and even jumping. The problem is, since we're playing the game right now, AND a new team is working on the game simultaneously, we're seeing things implemented and improved as they go. Also Yoshi-P and team arent implementing things at a rate that the player base is dictating. If that was the case, they would've just thrown up a job system and let us have at it.

Honestly, I dont see the big deal in getting a company issued chocobo after doing quests and paying for it...especially when we'll be breeding them sooner or later, fighting along side them, and other things you probably wouldnt ever be able to do in Vana'diel or any other FF universe in the past.

Perhaps I've been less than clear. Please, don't get me wrong. I'm all for the new development team, and I very much like Yoshida. I'm complaining about the loud chorus of entitled whiners that want everything rushed to them, regardless of quality. I just happen to think that making things available easily should not precede depth, layering and complexity... and yes, a certain degree of difficulty to access them.

I'm sure a certain balance will eventually arrive, but in the meantime, the psychological space of the game will be marred by a feeling of shallow, makeshift, simplicity that does not become the feeling of heroic adventure. I wanted a world to conquer, not one to be given to me for free. And by the time It becomes balanced, complex and challenging, I'll have 10 classes capped, and the trip there will have left only shallow memories of routine fights and lackluster equipment. (And don't tell me that we have to leve, and quest, and rank up, level up, and grind some more, as proof that this game has challenge. What did you expect? This is an MMO, for crying out loud! Those are the bare minimum. I want real imagination-stealing storylines and puzzles to solve, and battles that will test my ingenuity and skill.)

I still think the world is too small for chocobos and airships and I will continue stating it. If they were going to be introduced at this point, perhaps a higher set of hurdles was becoming. But the tantrum-prone needed appeasing, and what I'm seeing is a system that needed to be introduced in stages being rushed from both ends. We're simultaneously getting rentals and owned chocobos. And the latter will almost be given to you for free, if you are over 45. Why! I just got a surprise allowance of 1K seals from the Flames, at Ul'dah; that is exactly one third of what it will cost me to own my very own chocobo. Never mind that I already owned 6k and had nothing really pressing to spend them in. :-/

The world isn't too small per se; the problem is, there's not much IN IT to go do.

For example, think about Thanalan. There's actually a large area to run around in, and a lot of it is very difficult to reach thanks to high-level mobs. But there's no real reason to get to the difficult places, because there simply isn't anything behind them that profits your char. in any way.

One thing that could really help that - and that is on the planned list for 1.19 - are treasure chest on the field map, not connected to leves or quests. That would really add a badassness to getting around the strong mobs - knowing that you have a greater chance of finding some nice treasure hidden away.

Dont forget progressing towards the strongholds, and whatever out of the way places Company Quest/new story missions send us too. Also normal quests and NMs.

As far as touching on region largeness in general, Coerthas just feels huge.
