I think it gives them an opportunity to make a really interesting and polished class. I just hope they don't screw it up.

At least we've got a few months to rank up a real DD to 50. The people who do want to play BRD had better get spamming arrows for now. I don't know why SE is going out of their way to destroy a class. First the lack of auto attack, now this.

Archer isn't going to be nerfed.
But the role of primary ranged DD is going to go, and there are more than enough gameplay-related justifications for this.
As far as music goes, they've been doing quite a few remixes as of late (like the battle music in the raids changing, and one of the beastmen fort themes). I could see them remixing the songs too.

There is already Bard music in the game, as a Bard NPC plays it. In LL on the Marauder's ship (cabin area). She plays the first few notes of the theme song, so I would honestly expect that to be the melody that plays as well. >.<; (Although I really hope there are multiple melodies)

Where did I say they are nerfing it? They are turning it into a support job as you say, and this is the issue.Archer isn't going to be nerfed.

It would be awesome if you could compose in game some short music tunes and attach them to every bard song-ability![]()
I don't know if there's any truth to Archer having the Bard job, but...
Anyone else notice there's a rather small amount of classes? It seems pretty obvious to me there'll be more than one job for each class. Honestly...it's not going to ruin anything...they're like specializations. So an Archer could have either Ranger or Bard I guess. Same thing with Pugilist having Monk OR Thief. It fits.

The way I see it, if they made Archer into Ranger, what would be the point of having Musketeer and whatever it's advanced job would be down the road?
There would be two ranged DD classes unless they turned Muskteer into a support class, which just doesn't seem likely. Guns = hurt. (And Corsair wouldn't really make sense as the advanced job, since Musketeers are opposed to pirates.)
They're just turning it into a needed support class, and leaving the ranged DD slot open for Musketeer in the future so they don't have two classes that are basically the same with different weapons.
I wouldn't worry about it, this is only the first wave of jobs, I expect Ranger will show up in future.I really just cant get over it, that they're slamming a hard support class into a DD class and just washing out my favorite job. Hopefully my reaction to that "bow-harp" is way over the top, and SE finds a clever way to make a barcher actually really hard-core support. But something tells me... You can't just pooh on the archer like that. You are going to lose one of the roles, or have a generic and better-than-everyone class that fills too many roles.
but yea.. sweet tunes man. lets hope.
There are various ways they can do it, elemental bullets / enfeebles etc. Musketeer for example could get Sniper as an advanced class (I think that was a FFT class?) that deals out cripples to different areas of the body etc.
