If the relic weapons stayed relevant like FFXI they would be worth the grind.

My two biggest regrets from FFXI, and the two things i would have changed/done if i could do it all again were: First level Bard as my first main rather than as my last because it was THE MOST fun i have ever had in an MMO and second get a Bow relic for Samurai as my second main because that was just cool as hell.

Funny story: I was originally saving up for Mjollnir because when I started leading my Dynamis shell I was a white mage and a black mage. Later on I leveled red mage. Then I leveled thief. THEN, about a year and a half into saving for Mjollnir, I got bard to 75. (Oh man, you want drama? I used my DKP in my HNM shell to get a Kirin's Osode for my bard, which was 74 at the time. So much butthurt. They were MY points!)

I fell in love with bard and made the painful decision to switch to Ghorn. It set me back about six months to stage 4 since the two relics needed different currency.

I was one of those kinds of people that despite playing for about 8 years only and a couple of jobs at 75 because over those 8 years i restarted my character several times, which is one thing i regret the most.

It annoys me that my first 75 was Corsair, which while levelling was a brilliantly balanced job when reached endgame became pretty much a poor mans Bard. That why when s tarted levelling Bard i instantly fell in love with it because it had none of the drawbacks on the buffing side that Corsair had.

Stop comparing FFXI Relics to FFXIV. That system and everything in that game is from an archaic time and does not translate into a modern MMO. Your points and opinions are valid just stop comparing things to FFXI.

Where is everyone getting the info that the relic will only be relevant for 2 months? The relic in 2.x had 8 stages. How do you know that we won't be able to upgrade to 220 item level or higher in patch 3.2? That sure would suck for all the people who give up early.

Nope! You can pick it up on Steam or purchase it from Square Enix. Get the all-expansions pack. The lower levels are pretty lonely, but you can build a party of NPCs to help you level solo via the Trust system, and if you shout for a group in your starter city, someone should scoop you up into their linkshell for conversation and guidance pretty quickly.

XI at this point is basically six separate Final Fantasy games all set in the same universe. Lots of good stuff, and over the years they've cut out a lot of the bad as well.

Dynamis was fun though and recquired a ton of coordination and skill of watching mob movements and pulls in the days before the level cap. This grind is alex normal.

At least in the 2.0 relic people were forced to learn by trial and error in titan ( ping not withstanding). Alex normal isn't going to make anyone learn anything. It's base content where a semi competent group can carry 2-3 players. That didn't happen on titan until later on when it was getting outgeared. Even then you could wipe due to errors.

This relic is a straight grind of tic tac toe proportions. That's why alot of people, myself included, are frustrated. I Believe it should be changed, but I won't think that it's going to happen. I'll just work on raid and primal weapons until the next expansion comes out and hopefully they will have learned by then.

PS - I don't dissagree with your post but the games gearing systems are so dissimilar. I don't see how something like that relic would even work here with the focus on vertical progression.

Since the quest came out so late it does make sense. With 3.2 we will inevitably get a primal that drops i210-215 weps and more than likely a large nerf to a3s and a4s to get the casual crowd back into the raiding scene. What's disturbing is that this is only the first step. By comparison you can get a weapon that's only 5 ilvls lower in almost a tenth of the time. It's a staggering disparity by comparison.

Even if you like the grind and that's for you, how are you going to feel when its inevitably nerfed ( there's a strong history of that here ) and I finish in 2 weeks what took you 2 months then grind out the next stage of my relic in a short time because of all the backlash that is happening at this stage. If you wouldn't care then that is great. I have a feeling that you would be in the minority.

Sounds good! I just googled the jobs as well.

Whenever I read something like this, I'm always reminded of those grumpy old guys who complain that the youth got it so easy when they had to walk uphill both ways in their time.
And I wonder how 1.0 players cope with the fact that 2.0 players have such an easier time leveling.

As I said, I don't really care, I'm gonna wait for the inevitable nerf. Are you gonna seriously think there wouldn't be a huge backlash at such a nerf though?

2.0 was a new game, 1.0 players deal with it because that game was cancelled. This is the same game with a much larger community. It's a different animal.
