I gather a lot, so I tend to remember gathering spots/item slots especially if I need big quantities of them. I keep the in-game clock at eorzean time so I always know when I need to move.
In case I forget something or never gathered an item, a quick search on the Internet with my phone is more than enough.

There's going to be give and take for all options. You're going to have to track it somehow. You can set the game time clock to ET, you know, and just watch that. What other option do you want? Some random system that's first come, first served like the hunts? That would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more time consuming than a beep in the background.

Giving everyone an option to get an item if they're at the right time instead of the die-hard campers who'll reap 95% of the gains seems like a decent balance to strike.

There's sort of a limited "notebook" capability built in to the game: Macros. Write a macro with info on the nodes you like to gather from, using lines like this:
    Code:
    /e Adamantite: Azys Lla <24,6> 11AM/PM slot 6
    /e Darksteel: CCH <24,19> 1AM slot 3
Then put the macro on a quickslot for easy access, and it will echo your notes to the log when activated.

Because macros are limited to 15 lines, you might make one macro for Miner, one for Botanist, one for Fisher, and put them on the hotbars for each class.

This is a really good idea.

Yep, I've had this idea before, I just think these things should have easier access. But yeah, this does solve the problem temporarily

ITT: people who do not wish to go out of the game to do in game stuff.

This is not an unreasonable request. But I find it easy to do even when I am limited to one monitor.

Funny you should use a snarky response to reply on something you disagree with, that provides real insight to the topic at hand. Good job.

I don't see "This is not an unreasonable request" as disagreeing or snarky, myself.

Yeah, no kidding. How is that snarky? Saying you agree with someone is the new snark, I guess. Some people just want to be offended.

I think this could be easily solved with the following changes:

    - When you use Toil of the Mountaineer on a node, it'd register the Eorzean time it spawns and specific area it spawns (instead of that ???) on your gathering log entry.
    - When you first gather an item, it would register in which slot it is available.

This basically kills the need for any notes on website/notepad, and further adds to the game immersion of being a gatherer.
