The wheel is older than "so last-century" - "so last-millennium" doesn't do it justice either. Should we give it up, because it is such an antiquated device?

Having a PDF up on your third monitor is merely a higher technology version OF TAKING NOTES. Thank you, at least, for showing that for you, TAKING NOTES has not itself fallen out of favor - merely the centuries-old notion of pencil and paper.

Personally, I used to write down my "shopping list" when I was working on crafters before HW. But I agree with the others that there's a bit of inconsistency with the Gathering Log as is: you can see the details for leveling materials before you've even gathered them, yet even after gathering unspoiled node mats you still see ??? in the Gathering Log. Not to mention that the Gathering Log loses a lot of purpose when you see ??? for a lot of items.

Personally, I used to write down my "shopping list" when I was working on crafters before HW.

I used to create an Excel spreadsheet for that purpose.

Then I discovered Garland Tools, which makes your shopping list (and intermediate craft list) for you. And it allows you to track your collecting/crafting progress too. And of course it has a timed node tracker for DoL as well.

If you craft, it's worth having a second monitor (or for PS users, a laptop) around just to have Garland Tools up on. Once you embrace it's full power, it's epic.

I think it's fine that they don't list them offhand. Part of the fun is supposed to be discovering what is at each node, as well as finding the nodes and time slots themselves. However, it does seem to me that the gathering log should record this information after you uncover the item/slot for the first time. The gathering log itself could be a bit more useful or formatted better (not that I mind having a physical pen-and-paper gathering notebook, it's kind of fun to fill that up, too).
