I recommend just level GLD to lv 22 for provoke and go either DRK or WAR.

Like really PLD is lackluster compared to DRK's and WAR's and have bad dps.

Also in tanking don't forget tank dps generates more enmity so end game PLD's have to flash and provoke more than the other two tanks if the dpsers are good PLD in general will have problems holding hate unless over geared unlike DRK and WAR.

Useless to level if you've got a good group and you know how to max out dps on each current end game raid as War or Drk. Other wise it's the safest job to learn fights on.

So that's why the Dev team refuses to do anything to fix Pld... they're waiting for next expansion so they can just roll out a re-brand of the job as Red Mage. It all makes sense now...

Seriously though, adjusting the current meta in the future is fine (which we are already seeing with fights like Thor Ex), but unless they address Pld's deficiencies as a job they will always fall back into these problems. Pld is a great job, but SE needs to commit the same amount of polish to it that they gave to War and Drk.

It's only pointless to level a job if you don't like playing the job.

You like the job, you like the aesthetics, then just go for it. PLD indeed has a lot of issues right now but this is an MMO game, constantly evolving, meaning that this could change in any of the future patches. And even with its issues, it can still clear the content. If you like the job, play it, that's as simple as that.

It all comes down to skill. True skill comes from thoroughly enjoying a class, I would take a well played and motivated PLD player over a so-so WAR any day.
Also, don't stress too much over PLD DPS, its surprisingly competitive when played from an OT position.

If you're seriously using Flash and Provoke as your main ways of holding hate at endgame, yes there would be problems. Major ones.

If you're doing it properly, you only potentially run into problems trying to tank in Sword Oath with no Ninja.

I pull in sword oath (use fof and a pot usually), my dps blow their cds and pots usually... and my first combo is gb not roh yet i still keep hate... threat is fine for pld...

Yes, but I don't always get the hate buff because there are a lot of trolls in my static and I still keep hate fine
