I recommend just level GLD to lv 22 for provoke and go either DRK or WAR.

Like really PLD is lackluster compared to DRK's and WAR's and have bad dps.

Also in tanking don't forget tank dps generates more enmity so end game PLD's have to flash and provoke more than the other two tanks if the dpsers are good PLD in general will have problems holding hate unless over geared unlike DRK and WAR.

If you're seriously using Flash and Provoke as your main ways of holding hate at endgame, yes there would be problems. Major ones.

If you're doing it properly, you only potentially run into problems trying to tank in Sword Oath with no Ninja.

I pull in sword oath (use fof and a pot usually), my dps blow their cds and pots usually... and my first combo is gb not roh yet i still keep hate... threat is fine for pld...

Yes, but I don't always get the hate buff because there are a lot of trolls in my static and I still keep hate fine

Then your DPS are either bad at their jobs or wait before starting to DPS. Pulling in SwO as a PLD without NIN's threat and opening with GB while having your DPS start their burst openers right as you land your Shield Lob (which is what should happen in a static with a pull timer) is 100% sure to end up having the boss hitting the BLM or the BRD before you even have the time to reach the end of your GB combo, then hitting your DRG when he lands his Life Surged Full Thrust even after your following RoH combo. I've tested it, and I have a STR/pentameld build, almost full i210 gear, i205 weapon, and I do a lot of freakin damage. Even if you start with a RoH combo, opening in SwO is too weak without NIN's help. Only PLD has such difficulties, so his threat is an issue and it persists for the whole fight, because you have to use RoH regularly in order to maintain aggro, which is really bad for your DPS. Fixing PLD's threat would be a great way to fix its DPS.

Only have a Mch, 3 melee... and Drg and Mch will sometimes pull at the start but only for an autoattack or 2, which is no big deal. The only time really I ever have to really worry about threat is say Thordan, all the big aoe healing before the big blinding attack that breaks your screen and you accidently run too far and take 9999 damage but it's okay cause the Ast or Whm has aggro...
