But what they said Aska is there looking into it that doesn't mean fenrir is going to get flying. They are just looking into the possibility. As with all possibilities they may or may not happen so don't go getting your hopes up just yet cause they could always still decide otherwise.

I really dislike everyone asking for these type of things just because "Well, there's other lore iffy choices too" Where do you draw the line? You can't just ask for anything you want and expect them to bend around to give it to you just because you wanted it. "Why not have Squall and Cloud appear leading a raid against Exdeath?" No lore against that. Mind you, we all know how silly that would be and noone asked for that but I imagine it's only a matter of time until people start asking for similar things. It's the same thing as for Fenrir and the tortoise. It would just look weird and be ill fitting as all get out. Especially with how tacky constant wings would be. Look at the wedding wings, and the Summoner LB3 wings. Those are cool, special even! When you pop that, it's a sight to see, a real show stopper. Now imagine being able to always walk around with tiny Bahamutt wings or constant wings of aether behind you. It's lame, most people would use it, and would just ruin these special moments. Not to mention there's no basis at all for flight in that matter. Hell, look at black mages, masters of Aetherial manipulaton. The best they can do is slip and slide around, and now you're saying you want every pugilist, gladiator, and dragoon to be able to fly? I just can't even begin to fathom how stupid that would be. There is a separation of story/gameplay for sure, but that's just going way too far.

In summary GIVE HALLOWED GROUND A WING EFFECT ON CAST SQUARE BUT NEVER ADD WINGS AS A CONSTANT GLAMOR PLEASE THANK YOU. /endafterworkrant

Uhm either you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Or I misunderstood your second question.

What I was trying to say earlier is:
If we get wings, most people would not bother using their mounts to travel around. They would just pop their wings and travel/fly.
New players wouldn't even bother getting the questline for a chocobo, they would just wait until they can get their wings (unless it gets Gated behind a certain level limit).

So with this in mind, as a mount lover myself I find it very sad to see that all the work and design that devs put behind for creating mounts, would become a waste.

From my own experience, I started playing this game 3/4 months ago. I bought the game but I also bought Heavensward digital collectors edition so I have a Griffin.
With wings added to the game, my Griffin would become a rare sight because I would be one of the very few people who still uses their mounts to travel around.

Perhaps I am exaggerating, or maybe not. Either way, I don't want to see Wings become obsolute rendering the use of mounts to become (almost) useless.

    Already explained above.

I thought that it was obvious from my comments above...

    To answer your question:
Because of lazyness and or convenient/easiness. Whenever a possibility arises to do certain things faster and or easier, people will do just that.

I also agree on other peoples arguments being against this lore wise etc.

You said adding wings would make other mounts useless. Why? They likely wouldn't function any differently than a mount. It doesn't sound like the op, or anyone here, wants more than that. You'd just be flying with wings instead of a dragon or whatever your mount of choice is.

And it's clear from this thread that plenty of people aren't interested in wings or, in some cases, are quite strongly opposed to even having them exist. Even if they did add this, via whatever means or explanation, I seriously doubt it'd spell the end of mounts.

@edit, you explained your thoughts, not your reasoning. Why would people just abandon chocobos and mounts in favor of wings if wings acted the same as any other mount?

I mean I get why most people here don't want wings, and I see their point (lore etc.), but I don't get where this argument is coming from.

I will start by saying personally, I wouldn't care for them. So you can chalk me up to the "no" column.

That said I have issue with some of the replies and the "general opinion".

    1. There is nothing wrong with adding things like wings and the like. Some people might like it and just because they would be the minority, doesn't mean they cannot get some love.

    2. The lore argument is hilarious to me. Most of our mounts, some of our minions, and a number of job armors and weapons could all fall under the "lore breaking" category. Its a bit silly to say its to lore breaking to have wings as we fly off on Midgardsomr's back.... just saying.

I know on Summoner, one of the first things I thought of was wings, for flying, only on Summoner have I thought this though. (dreadwyrm stance, portion of power , yadda yadda.)

I don't know why people bring up "balance" when talking about flying with wings, there is absolutely 0 game play that happens around flying, it is purely traversal, and all characters/classes/jobs can do it.... Short of being lazy and not getting the currents. (oh wait, there was those one things, in beastmen quests that sneezed things into chat dialog... I guess that counts as "game play".)

Also, popping wings to fly, it could be a mount category/button. Even if it wasn't... it would still be another button.... so not like wings vs mounts has any advantage over each other... that is, in my opinion, the weakest argument against something I have ever heard. Let me be clear here, I have no opinion one way or the other. (you know why? because it has 0 to do with game play, and "immersion" is relative.)

I do know, that people bringing up Fenrir seems strange, since in FFXI, if I am remembering correctly, there was a few cut scenes where he was "floating" "hovering" over Windurst, so it isn't exactly outside of the realm of possibility, plus.... you know magic... and dragons, flying with wings seems like a weird and funky time to draw the line in the sand and say... "it isn't real enough". Let us not even get started on how all EX primals drop horses/ponies and each horse/pony is "imbued" with a fraction of that primal, somehow, that gives them glowing feet from the depths of the "aether" or w/e IDK... My point is... it just seems like a weird spot to put your foot down and say "no, enough is enough" ... maybe? no? IDK...

Also bringing up other games into an idea such as this has 0 to do with anything. You may be sick of something... doesn't mean others have even experienced it in the first place... just saying.

When flying has anything to do with game play beyond "I got to the node faster and easier." then we can talk balance issues etc..

This is, all of coarse, my opinion, so take it with a huge grain of salt.

Its not really possible to skip your chocobo since you need to acquire it in order to ride a mount at all (from what I remember). The GC quest requires that you get your license which automatically gives you the chocobo. As for not using your chocobo, it already acts as a companion so, yeah....I also do not get where people are thinking it would fall under an ability, it would work like a typical mount function. As I said, look at your ahriman, flight could work the same way since that mount never touches the ground, so you can 'float' in ground travel areas. Honestly, having Cid make a jetpack would be cooler, but w/e.

I agree, I'm sick of these chocobos flying around like mounts, they should be fried up, turned into wings and put in a bucket for £15.99 (need gil convert kthx o/)
