I love how people have already forgotten that the devs have already ruled out Blue Mage because they feel that the inherent mechanics for that class clash completely with the style of play that FFXIV requires, skills based vs gear based basically.

I would personally love to see something like WoW's Druids placed in this game, the ability to shapeshift and gain abilities based upon the form you take would be a nice switch from the other classes at this point.

The next set of jobs really should include a caster dps. We still only have two INT dps in SMN and BLM.

If you were going to pick 3 jobs based on popular demand, I think the leading requests are for Red Mage, Blue Mage and Samurai.

But you also need to consider balance and fitting the theme of the expansion, and the devs like to create new things rather than just draw from the past.

Also unclear if they will add 3 jobs in 4.0 or just 2 jobs, since the plan is to move towards smaller but more frequent expansions, and never doing something as huge as Heavensward again because the man hours were killer.

Heh, would be fun if they went into completely left field with Samurai and make it a melee-caster that uses INT and MND stats and utilize both MP and TP together to create SP (Spirit or Soul points) to execute special techniques through their katanas.

Yoshi has NEVER said no to Blue mage, only said that it was kinda hard to do in a Party Setting but seems good for solo content, because he's worried that Blue Mages might be avoided to bring along if the person doesn't have the ability the party wants so difficult to do in a MMORPG setting, so you're wrong to say that the developers flat out said no to bring Blue Mages to FFXIV since it's one of the most popular jobs that requested along side RDM / SAM / NIN and DRK with the latter two being already added....

and here's the proof of the comment if you look @ 0:53:21

So where does it say "the developers have ruled out Blue Mage"?

This wouldn't be practical enough to fit in an MMORPG party setting and conversely if you are swapping in only certain abilities you've learned, the true image of a blue mage would diminish, so this is something that I am concerned with."

Whilst it was not directly said, it is eluded to that the style of play required to bring the most out of Blue Mage clashes with the style of play required for FFXIV, effectively ruling out the class, unless you'd like to see it implemented in a way that people would cry as being broken, leading to my favourite call "Make it as it was in XI".

But the problem is, you flat out stated that they would never bring Blue mage to FFXIV, all yoshi said was, it was hard to work with in a mmorpg but he still would like to work on it

"I think that blue mage is an interesting job because you can learn spells from enemies, but honestly I don't think that it really fits MMORPG party settings. If anything, I think it would work solo and it would be really fun to implement it as a job where you go around and learn abilities from every monster, so I'd definitely like to try and do this, but I'm concerned when it comes to playing in a party players would put up barriers if you haven't learned certain abilities. Additionally, in the event you are able to use abilities forever once you learn them, the difficulty of learning abilities would be high, and we wouldn't be able to balance the system so it wouldn't revolve around procuring your abilities instead of equipment. so there's a yes and no, as balance issues is what he's concerned with but at the same time he's seeing how he could potentially bring BLU into FFXIV
