Nothing new. You can do this in pretty much any run to varying degrees of effectiveness, with ones that have transitions being easier. I remember getting a group in Neverreap where the tank decided we were ignoring the Dhamels near the end. We jumped the gap to fight the final boss after clearing the gate keeping adds, and the Dhamels were left standing there staring at us. After we killed the final boss, as a MCH I decided that I didn't like not killing them and decided to shoot them from across the gap. Ended up being a bit of a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming when all three of the other party members decided to come back and join me in killing them with what ranged attacks they had.....

Realistically, you can do this to any boss in the game if the tank can survive the adds well enough. Just pull everything and rush to the boss, before holding the adds at the gate until the 15s pops up and locks them out. I'd advise against it though unless you're premade. I got a tank in Wanderer's Palace earlier who decided to speed run it at the valve stage, and pulled a large chunk of the dungeon into the second boss fight, which resulted in our healer being killed and us having to use melee LB to kill what is arguably one of the weaker bosses in the game in order to keep from wiping. Cue the votekick immediately after.....

Only when everyone realizes that you cant use the Dungeon Exit to leave if you're stuck in combat with mobs over the gap :P
Found that out when i suggested we do it in a run with friends. Just flat out would not let us leave via the exit light, lol.

You actually have to kill them. They're still aggro'd onto you, and the game won't let you leave the instance if you have aggro, ergo, they have to die before anyone is allowed to leave.

Actually, they don't have to die. There's a convenient pit around the arena that you an kill yourself with and then end the instance.

It's only the Orn hornet that does that

Two Final Stings can go off however.

If the intent is to skip, you'll only see one cast, unless DPS sucks. The second orn only spawns when the honeycomb is half dead, so you should be in the boss room before the cast.
Just keep the first orn targeted or focus target it and save your stun for final sting.

Last night the party i ran roulette with did this skip and I didn't have any problems leaving the instance at the end? May have been a one off for me somehow I guess but I didn't experience that.

Edit: thinking about it, the tank and healer did die and I don't think myself or the other Dragoon had aggro (we survived) so I assume that's why/how it worked out for me?

After the boss and jumping down the pit to part 3 of dungeon, aggro is gone. But right before the boss, your regen is "in combat" though.
