playing more than one account (multiboxing) is not the same as botting.
a multiboxer is still in complete control of all accounts and the game has not been tampered with, only the inputs of the peripherals on the PC.

<-- broken 1.0 sig because i'm lazy.
The consequences should be the same as third party software is giving them an advantage over others.

I once healed a multi-boxing ninja pair in DD that were good enough to get through the entire dungeon from right after the first boss to right before the last boss (when a new tank joined) without a tank. We wiped a couple times on the second boss. That was about it. I know it was multi-boxing and not botting because the player admitted to it and chatted throughout the dungeon, as well as just having generally inconsistent performance depending on what was going on (i.e. playing like a human, not a bot).
Is it, though? Having alts in FFXIV past level 30 is only 'an advantage' in that it allows you to keep playing after weekly lock outs. It doesn't really help you in any way mechanically, other than having some extra free retainers (which you don't need them past level 30 to get).
Two accounts at 50 can get you two houses, two FCs and consequently two FC houses. Two geared accounts at 60 will give you twice the chance of getting loot such as coffin lids, minions or trade-able goods in dungeons.

I'd call those things an advantage.

I'd actually be pretty impressed if someone can navigate two accounts during Void Ark.
I mean I agree I don't think multiboxing should be allowed but...doesn't change the fact that it'd be impressive.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

Um...
One account at 50 can get you two houses, two FC's, and consequently two FC houses.
The only difference with multiboxing is that these two characters can be logged in at the same time and be on each other's friend list. But if you create both characters on the same server, and join the same FC(or create one with a friend and have him invite your alt), the same benefits apply.
Except its actually a gameplay disadvantage, as you need to control 2 characters simultaneously, not to mention fun times in Vaults last boss with the chains.
There is no inherent advantage to multi-boxing. In games like WoW, yeah, 5 Elemental Shaman comboing a Lava Burst for a 100% crit on a single poor sod is going to ruin that persons day, but ts also nothing that can't also be achieved with communication. But even then, If the multi-boxer is attacked, they have to just stand there and take it because they can't move the characters individually very easily without relinquishing control of the others.
And in a PvE setting, if they're capable of clearing the content and are manually controlling both characters, whats the harm to you or the game in general?
Its not like they can control all 3 Roles at once so they can't even run themselves through a Dungeon while synced.
It's a big problem when it comes to gathering though. There was someone on Moogle who used to multi-box with around 8 characters. When someone is getting 8x more mats for the same amount of effort it kind of ruins the economy. There is no inherent advantage to multi-boxing. (snip)

Not sure why people try to steer the topic away but botting is the issue and not boxing. Botting 24 7 on one account is more disastrous then someone gathering ingredients boxing. Not sure about the rest of the playerbase but if I'm paying for my sub I expect a fair playing field in a game and not with cheaters in an online enviroment. The two black mages were not boxing if you saw how automated they moved around in the same spots. It was the same ordeal as it was in North Thanalan when you had 20 people in a conga line botting up level 50-60 back in June.
