The new raiding meta is making me want to quit.

I don't know what happened on SE's end, but now that everyone *demands* so much out of tanks and healers, it's started to push me away from the game. I blame savage and it's extremely high difficulty, and find this sort of community meta disgusting when healers are getting kicked for not doing enough damage. Tanks too. What ever happened to healers healing and tanks tanking? Healer/tank dps was always supposed to be a solo thing or a luxury to good, well geared groups.

    inb4 someone says "gitgud"

I totally agree with you by the way. If this game continues with the crazy vertical progression and high DPS as the only meta, it won't last nearly as long as FFXI.

I agree completely with your point of view.

Altho the "always supposed to" is up to what way the devs want the game to be, and it seems that SE only gives a crap about dps in their classes. Tanks should be managing agro, but hate is so easy to build in this game that it's not even an issue, thereby making the only thing that makes a tank good or bad the dps that they do. Healers should be more focused on managing mana, using downtime in healing to regen. But nope, SE only seem to care about the dps aspect of the groupcontent in this game.

I don't think 3.2 will fix anything. They can't make major changes to how the combat system works until the next expansion at the earliest and I don't think Yoshida and team really want to change a thing. Along with the fact that if you take away Tank and Heal DPS, you'll have really long DF queues and have a hard time getting anyone to want to play those jobs anymore.

Love doing high dps and pushing myself to do as much damage as a tank while trying to properly mitigate damage. Been doing that pre-heavensward.

Even if the changes are big, I doubt they're going to be in a way that makes the "trinity" less focused on dps. Hate has been a joke for as long as I've played, about 1.5-2 years. In my opinion tanks should need to focus on building agro instead of focusing on causing as much damage as possible. And as I said previously, healers should need to worry more about mana, not being able to just heal/dps non-stop and should need the downtimes to handle the mana regen, if not overgearing the content with a good margin. Current "trinity" is a joke, as tanks are really nothing more than less squishy dps that does a bit less damage, and healers are dps that heals.

I really wish I understood what everybody's obsession was with trying to gimp DPSing tanks. When I don't have any of my friends online and I make the mistake of joining Duty Finder solo, I can say with absolute certainty that I ADORE the ability to pick up the slack of my team and throw out enough damage to beat all but the most sharp of DPS players. I'm reasonably certain that if that power of mastery was taken away from me, the ability to be so good at my role that I'm able to do my job AND THEN some, it would push me away from tanking.

And to be frank, Tanks and Healers have been able to DPS since the advent of 2.0, but NOW it's a huge problem and everybody wants it to change?

There is a way to do the trinity better, but it'd require taking inspiration from other games and making bosses have better mechanics than Dance Dance Revolution. We'd need to make CC have a real effect in gameplay, such as being able to stun a boss during a big move to knock them down and leave them vulnerable. We'd also need non-circular arenas.

Most importantly, we'd need to have some real synergy between our jobs beyond stuff like Slashing Resistance Down debuffs.

Imo tanks and healers can do too much dps and because the contribution is so noticable it is then required. If dpsing wasn't so much rewarded, the issue wouldn't be so big.

I would expect boost to defensive stats. Either in matter of defense or letting them boost dps. It's probably not going to stop tank/healer dps train.
