For me, as a crafter, I want to make the item HQ.
I don't care if it doesn't sell for a single gil more.

Mostly ego.
Had an FC crafter make something for glamour back in ARR. I gave him all NQ mats and it still cost me about 2 million, almost all I had. I said NQ is fine, it's glamour. His ego wouldn't let him do that and he lost the mats to failure. Just because he wanted to say he did it HQ. That really annoyed me.
Did he pay for the replacement mats for you or did you have to rebuy them?Mostly ego.

I try to HQ where I can, but if an FC member said "NQ is fine, it's for glamour" I would nuke my ego so damn hard I'd end up in hospital if I tried to HQ it.
White Mage ~ Scholar ~ PaladinBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
One possible reason you might try to HQ such an item with no statistical change is for Free Company credits.
And if its both the same? 2.00$ vs 2.00$? ^^ Admit you want the blue tiger already(although "great value" impresses me a lot lol)
ps yes the tiger itself isnt blue, dont even...

I don't think i'm the only BRD out here that has to play the job because of static needs.Sure we all got used to this new playstyle that feels like we are driving a huge pile of shit without a steeringwheel, but that doesn't mean we enjoy it.I git gud and still hate
Bah! I completely forgot about that. Now that makes more sense why you'd still try to HQ something. Though it still doesn't mean there's a difference at the buyer's perspective. Aside from the spiritbonding thing. But I suppose as these no-stat items are meant for RP/glamour purposes, the feeling of binding the item to your soul makes more sense.
BUT THE TIGER ISN'T BLUE!
Though in all fairness, yes, I'll take the Frosties if they're the same price (or cheaper). Thing is, I won't pay even a penny extra for them. I'm a tight Yorkshireman that way.

What, did he start with some bad luck, try for a reclaim and fail that? Usually "failing" a HQ attempt simply means ending up NQ.Mostly ego.

I can give 2 answers to this questition:
1) My pride as a crafter - as said so before... I've got the stats and the skill to make it HQ, so I'll do it!
2) And, thats kinda more important: To figure out a rotation for items of that level - specially for the new master/star recipes. Trying and progressing while crafting an item that still has its main value (the look) even if its turn out HQ is my way to go to figure out how to craft the "real" gear without the risk to loose any materials.
