From what i've been told its not possible to meld Tier V materia to this gear (i170 Crafted Master gear). For this reason, Tier V crafting materia is still not attainable asside from transmute and furthermore is essentially useless atm. Which leads me to believe that Tier V Crafting/Gathering Materia is meant for the next set of gear coming in 3.2 which will likely be i190 (Artisan/Foragers 3.0)

    Wrong.
I melded a CP +6 (rank V) materia to one of the ilv170 accessories.
Besides, I don't expect new crafting gear before patch 3.4 if they keep a similar pattern to ARR, and when it comes, it's probably gonna be very slightly better than what we have, but will be cross class.

Yea, I was just checking, and I am allowed to meld a Tier V Savage Might or Tier V Quicktongue on my chest piece. So I can safely assume all Tier V can be melded there.

That's great news guys thanks for the clarification.

Now this has me wondering if they added tier V material to the conversion list of the i170/i180 crafting gear. Has anyone tried to convert yet? A friend of mine NQd a carpenter MH and I was going to desynth it for him but perhaps converting it would be a better option?

I have my GSM is at desyn level 179.90, and yet my desyn of i170 gear is only 59%. I can safely assume that when I reach level 180, it'd be 60%. Tinker's Calm adds 10% and Bacon Broth adds 2.5%. The highest one can achieve is only 72.5%. That's not very high imo. Quite a bit of risk to desyn i170.

I would think converting might be a safer choice. But of course, it might just end up a Tier IV.

True, but your forgetting that each meld adds 5%. So with a pentameld with cheap trash materia you would get much higher results with that extra 25% boost.

    Oh, right!! I did forget about it! 72.5 + 25 = 97.5%. Now that'd be worth it.
