We're not talking about flashing "moves", but more complex mechanics. As a PLD, you don't have to manage a lot of things. Up to 50, enmity was never an issue, since you did only your enmity combo. Now, it's rarely an issue on single target, since even your more powerful combo has some kind of enmity bonus.
The two timed effect fits nicely for a GB-RoH-RA combo with a little skill speed, and your MP are almost useless.

Changing stance is higly impractical to discourage stance dancing too much, and both Oath only have passive effects, so you don't really care which one your on as long as you keep aggro and survive.

I used to play PLD till lvl 60 and geared up ILV 190+ on a different character that was my main since the beginning of FF14. I really loved it and stick to this class only until DRK came out ; I didnt even consider trying MRD back then. So I decided to move on different server and started a Marauder so I could switch DRK at lvl 50 and stick as that. This actual character is now my main. I thought that MRD skills would complete greatly DRK skills. And honestly, I dont know why but I really dig MRD. To the point, I dont even know now if I want to go DRK when the time comes... And the worse thing, I dont consider playing PLD anymore. I still love that class however I have second thoughts playing it again now I have tasted MRD fully here and DRK on my old character...

No surprise the FPS generation of gamers look down on Paladin-type jobs. Defense is something that surrounds a house to these people, so why would I be shocked to see these people hopping on the WAR bandwagon (and do a shockingly bad job of it in the process). It's all about big numbers with the FPS generation.

Look at my Lodestone all you like. All 3 tank jobs are at Level 60 and at i190. I enjoy all of them equally and could care less what people from other forums say (only sheep take their words as gospel).

I haven't played DRK cause the aesthetic doesn't agree with me at all, but I have played both PLD and MRD quite a bit. They both have their merits, PLD is actually hella fun in A2 where I can be a beefy tank again, but at the end of the day WAR is simply more dynamic. It commands my attention in ways that PLD simply doesn't. I also understand that the game should include a less dynamic playstyle, but PLD is incredibly vanilla.

I'm not what you would call the FPS generation. Ive been playing MMO's for quite some time, and RPG's since the NES days. I also love fighting games though. Twitch play =/= someone who has does not have patience. In fact it can be just the opposite. When I'm playing WAR I'm patiently waiting in tank stance for a opportunity to spring into DPS stance to help out my fellow members. Noone in a fight sits and takes damage 100% of the time. You also need the capacity to attack when given the opportunity. WAR just meshes with this ideal more soundly then PLD does.

As I said before, I won't comment on DRK cause I hate the theme that surrounds it.

Sorry, but I think you're missing the point.
If WAR only had one combo, even an earth-shattering one, you'd see the same issues with its gameplay being "boring".

You could make a defense-based job more dynamic to play, by asking it to manage its mitigation more actively. Or, since we're Paladin, and still require a bit of knowledge on healing from our conjurer training, makes us survive by half mitigating, half healing, half managing MP...yeah, I know, that's three "half", but PLD reeeeaaaaly needs to go more complex

The worst thing for me is that, as the core, PLD and DRK have the same basic mechanic. But with the MP management and a lot of oGCD skills, DRK feels more complex and much faster to play.

3 tanks lvl60 too (Almost 4 if you count the PLD I'm leveling on my alt...) mained PLD until 3.0, swiched to DRK, never really dug into WAR, even if it's fun sometimes.

I personally am a seasoned tank in every MMOs since years and I love the fact of being able to actually fight back the guy who is constantly destroying my ass and feeling like I'm contributing a lot to the damage. I like hitting back as much as being hit. And it's the case of a lot of tanks who actually like the current tank meta of FFXIV. It doesn't prevent me from thinking about keeping aggro and surviving everything properly first, as I'm a tank. I'm here for that, ya know. But after that, everything else goes and should go in pure offense. If you don't care at all about what people on forums say, why are you posting here then ?

    I like Paladin.
I'd probably also admit I'm exactly brilliant at the game. PLD is fine for me, lets me wrestle with the content rather than my class.

If you're brilliant at FFXIV, or probably more likely, think that you're brilliant at FFXIV, then there are 2 other tanks that are a bit more complex.

That isn't exactly saying much. They added a DoT and a higher-potency non-enmity combo to our "rotation," but there aren't any other mechanics to make the class special. There are ways to be simple and approachable without being boring, generic, and mundane.

To be perfectly honest, if you're looking for an adrenaline rush you're playing the wrong role. Tanking is not about thrillseeking. It's about keeping 3 or 7 others from being slaughtered.
