The first thing I said to myself when I walked into Mor Dhona was "Why hullo thar Mr Dragon. Didn't we see you end up like that in the opening cinematic?" and then proceed to speculate massively.
Aha, you totally got me on the hume thing. I'll fix that. However, when I refer to the Wyrmking's Perch, I literally mean Wyrmking's Perch. It's an Aetheryte Gate in Coerthas. I don't imagine they'd name it that if he'd never been there.
While I do think that it would be strange, I can't imagine it being anything but the King of Primals seeing as when he blows up, all the other primals come flying out of him. My thought is that when the other primals are gathered (either in union, or in defeat) then he rises again. That just sounds very Final Fantasy-ey to me.
I actually kinda hope that's true, that it was just one of Bahamut's right hand wyrverns like he had in XI. Makes sense to me, either way, but then Bahamut would have to be f**king huge.
As far as theories go, I like it. Garlemald seems pretty adamant that the "False Gods" be destroyed, but what if they really are capturing them...My theory was that Garleans were using "Eikons" to power some of their machinery. (Which might explain why we experience the Echo in the first place. Our primal - possibly Siren, hence 'echo' - may be captured by the Garleans and is calling out to players to set her free).
A great addition to the above. Maybe we're reading way further into the future than expected; if SE hasn't really fleshed that out yet, I say they borrow some of these ideas, lol.

I'm hoping our first endgame area is mor dhona in the past. Use the echo to access the past end game areaIts such an amazing place

Seriously, I didn't actually know there was one XD
When I watched the cinematic I thought it was a view of the future, not the past. Like, he was looking at the leve card then got some kind of prophesizing view of what would happen if he took it, and that's why he made the decision for it at the end.
Given that the echo only seems to work backwards though, it pretty much shot my theory out of the water, unless future echo is something we have yet to see.
I think we make a lot of assumptions based on prior experience with media and forget how the Echo works. For instance, I'm pretty sure 90% of the introduction (if not most of the beginning of the story) takes place within instances of the Echo - but who realizes that right away?

On the note of Bahamut dying right off the bat before the game starts, as Anonymoose said, it could have been planned for us adventurers to have to go on a "revive Bahamut" main story quest line at some point in the future to battle whatever awesome force of power we've yet to hear about. Also, as we don't really know anything about Primals, we can't even be sure if they can be killed. Maybe by "dying" they only go into a petrified slumber as we see Bahamut as now.
I like this idea, it's heavily reminiscent of the whole Espers and Magitek Factory with the Gestahlian Empire in FFVI and I always love throwbacks to FFVI. =DMy theory was that Garleans were using "Eikons" to power some of their machinery. To be honest I didn't even think the dragon was dead when I went into Mor Dhona, his head is still held aloft and usually when things die they tend to go limp,in which case he would have slipped off the ship into the lake.On the note of Bahamut dying right off the bat before the game starts, as Anonymoose said, it could have been planned for us adventurers to have to go on a "revive Bahamut" main story quest line at some point in the future to battle whatever awesome force of power we've yet to hear about. Maybe he's just sort of... chilling out, hanging around thinking "Yeah, I'm bad-ass and you know it, you ain't crossing that lake any time soon."
I submit that he looks pretty dead to me, but I still say he's gonna wake the hell up one of these days. Otherwise, why would he even still be there? He'd have been eaten by scavengers and decomposed by now.
As they say, if there's a gun on the wall in a play, that gun better go off before the end of the play.

maybe it was bahamut maybe he did die. and i don't want to upset anyone but maybe that is SE's way of getting a shot of there iconic dragon in the game without putting him in the game so to speak
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
He does look pretty messed up, but I still say he's alive. Though I wouldn't try and use the wings as an excuse to prove my theory, I use to breed canaries and if they died with their wings open that's how they'd stay (Rigore mortis eh?).I submit that he looks pretty dead to me, but I still say he's gonna wake the hell up one of these days. Also, congrats on a getting a picture of Mor Dhona when it's not purple (b'.')b
