3.1 MSQ Reaction [SPOILERS]

Is it just me or was there something extremely off putting about the Fortemps brothers in that last cutscene in the manor? And has anyone noticed that Artoriel is slowly putting on more Haurchefant-esque mannerisms throughout the different cutscenes in this patch? Could just be me, but he's directly quoting him, using his usual body language, and his cheery behavior when he adresses Emmanellain is odd.. at the very least Artoriel seems pretty out of character at certain parts.. Emmanellain's reaction to Artoriel was downright weird. And if you talk to Emmanellain at the jeweled crozier (he's at a new location at the top of the stairs looking out) he's being very moody, even Honoroit is freaking out.
I'm just wondering, cause there's obviously something fishy going on.. I have a feeling Artoriel becoming the count isn't a good thing.. Has anyone else noticed this?

I interpreted Emmanellain his particularly un-enthusiastic attitude as that he is actually in camp "these new revelations on the dragonsong war don't sit well with me". Problem is, his house is 100% supportive of Lord Aymeric, and that puts him in a really tight spot. Another possibility is that someone (or some house) is pressuring him into things he doesn't want. We are told Lord Fortemps had to endure a lot of slander, and it is possible that people have been trying to get a foot in the door by blackmailing/threatning Emmanellain. I admit I haven't spoken to him after the story though (went to look in his old spot and didn't see him there, and didn't look much further).

Lord Fortemps mentioning that Aymeric is 'like another son' to him made me notice that Aymeric shares the same clear blue eyes and raven black hair and the Fortemps boys and for a moment I was afraid he actually IS another son. But I think I am going paranoid here.

I noticed that as well, but I think the scene was more about how he was overlooking his own son, who was standing right there.

Honestly felt really short, and not a whole lot really happened. It felt like simply setting up the "patch plot" so it can all get knocked down in the future updates.

Thanks to the lack of dumb filler quests it kept everything focused, but felt short due to the lack of padding. There's one thing I'm still hung up on...

Why is Thancred wearing a blindfold over one of his eyes when you can clearly see in the flashback stills that he was teleported with both of his eyes intact nor does he mention being seriously injured while living in the wild, not that I was expecting such to begin with. The dude was murdering bears completely naked with sharp rocks. Seriously like no one is even concerned over this.

Other than that, super lame to just get immediately ganked by WoDs and having my Virgil 1 fight stolen by Thancred like that. Anyone else notice that ever since 2.5 every story fight as transitioned from pretty down to earth, although pretty flashy to big dumb anime fights with characters leaping 30 feet into the air and energy explosions?

I think someone earlier in the thread mentioned that, if you look closely in the flashback scenes, the covered eye is white, implying he's blind in it like Y'shtola is, but since he lacks the ability to wield aether, cannot develop aether sense to compensate.

Personally, I'm kind of hoping the problems with Y'shtola and Thancred are either resolved, or we see some means to compensate for them. Maybe Matoya will pass on her crystal to Y'shtola so she doesn't die in a few months time. As for Thancred, maybe he'll tame a Griffin and use that to get around?

I'll concede to that I suppose. The detail must have slipped my mind. I was busy admiring the wildlife.

It was a very impressive bear.

Overall the new Thancred design gives me a Papa Nier. Maybe a subtle nod since the main artist is also on the new Nier project.

Okay, so, for a cultural frame of reference on what's going on here: Monkey D. Luffy, captain of the Straw Hat Pirates in the shounen manga epic One Piece, was revealed to be burning away his lifespan when he triggers his Gear Second waaay back in the Enies Lobby arc. This was ten years ago, real time, and even discounting how bloody slowly time passes when updated at a pace of 19 pages per week, there was a two-year timeskip in there, also, and yet Luffy's kicking around just fine with no end in sight. Such is shounen manga.

Right now, I'd say it's best to think of it as a really slow burn, one that will take years to start showing any adverse effects. There are ways it can be dealt with later, but I imagine it's a fairly long-term plant, not something to be handled immediately.

I think he said he was careless for a moment and 'almost lost an eye'. Hence, it's there, but bandaged?

That's fair enough, Fenral, though following the Final Fantasy track record, I just get the vibe that it wouldn't have been brought up at all if it would not have some visible presence moving forward. I can't imagine it'll be ignored until the 5th expansion when we're invading Garlemald. Then again, I may be wrong.

I'm beggining to think I misunderstood something, since nobody else has mentioned it so far. When meeting Krile she says something akin to that each person having the Echo (or the blessing of light, can't remember which one right now) has a different ability. Hers was to being able to understand animals (but not beasts or something). In fact after meeting the warrior of darkness and witnessing the vision, she says hers also included the buzzing of the hive mind (being near their colony) and that her head was buzzing. Has this point (that echo users have different abilites) been discussed about before?

About Thancred's eye, I'm pretty sure it's still there. I recall him saying something like "I know what you're thinking, and don't worry. I'm using it becauce it helps with the ladies" or something like that before taking the next quest from Alphinaud.

As far as I understood, Krile meant that her Echo basically allows her to be a translator. Anyone who speaks a language (so not animals or beasts since they don't use a spoken language mostly), she can understand it. This would be why she was able to understand the Hive Mind, or at least hear them somewhat. Just my two coppers.
