Honestly, saying nothing is worse than saying you're new, inexperienced or still unfamiliar to the fight (as it may make people automatically assume you're just there to be carried). Saying nothing and being the main cause of a party wiping is the quickest way you'll get yourself booted and blacklisted.
This is VERY true. If someone is new joins my party, I'm usually OK to give them a fair trial, unless the party finder SPECIFICALLY says "No bonus" or something similar. If it's JUST a farm group, and I've not said no bonus allowed, if someone comes in saying "Oh I haven't got the kill" I'd be willing to try and work with them.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

I don't find the retail comparison very strong, at all. Like, I work in retail and I don't encounter people I absolutely abhor or loathe. Yes, I've had to help people I didn't personally like, but by and large people are pretty chill and interesting to talk to (I've met like four cosplayers who now regularly show me what they're working on, and people who just chat about whatever). But then again I don't show outward attitude in return to attitude shown to me, and if someone's gaming the system I just bring their issue or concern to my manager who deals with them from there.

There are people who are jerks, yeah, but that's life. May as well make the best out of it and not become a jerk in response and continue a cycle of toxicity that ruins otherwise fine individuals' days.

But XIV is a video game. It's not a job, it's not work. If a wipe happens, grow up and either excuse yourself from the group if you don't want to continue playing, or try to figure out why your group wiped and include yourself in that analysis. If a mechanic was screwed up on, point it out and explain it to those who didn't understand it. Be courteous about it, because everyone there is spending time to relax and enjoy something so there's no reason to make it a migraine-inducing venture.

If you want a perfect group, don't PUG content. Go through the effort of finding a guild or static group with the same goal. Honestly, if anyone PUGs anything they should expect to fail a few times, thinking otherwise is ridiculous, lol.

Can see this model working, establishing 1 server with a reputable renown for a good raiding/teaching community and attracting other players to it, leaving the poor minded individuals to leave or stay in diminishing communities.

We currently have the Gilgamesh is most populated, let's flock there mentality and well that's another result.
Well then, that could possibly work. The thought of that never occurred to me...

From where the community at Gilgamesh stands? People are afraid. Every time I see a 'prog' PF up for T9, EMPTY. Even with most progression groups these days, almost every PF says one thing. 'Please know the mechanics' or something like that. So if a guy who watched a video once and joined that group, he will hesitate to say he did so.

Once upon a time there was an unspoken rule that DF Titan HM was for practice or giggles. Everyone knew that. What changed in two years?

I'm going to try that with Odin. Since I expect I'm going to flunk my raid tryout (for Alex Savage), since I can't seem to do my job well enough, I can use my efforts to focus on the casual and mid-core stuff and help people learn.

For the EU realms, I'll try to make Odin the place for that. Yes, it's a bigger realm, but I'm sure I can work something. I'm also in a lovely supportive FC so I will see if I can wrangle them into it, as well as use my contacts in my old FC.

To be honest, the first time I downed DF Hard Mode Titan forever ago was in a Duty Finder learning group, like, back before data centers were a thing and the servers still had that ability lag. It took us like three tries, it was a case of "we messed up, we figured out why, we didn't mess up the same way a second time" since we were all learning. I think our only issue was our australian BRD getting knocked off the platform, but I just went cleric stance and threw rocks really, really hard.

Exactly what I've been doing on Odin, it's shockingly a good way to make friends and increase your overall positive energy at playing. My friends list has tripled since I started doing friendly farm groups.

Oh I never said it doesn't happen, infact that determine is what probably got you the kill, such things are rare in DF.

the "you should have read a guide/watched a video before you came" is ridiculous.
so many people no longer even have the common courtesy to wait for party members to arrive and get buffed..

to complain about the "subpar" players out there..you realize this attitude is exactly what contributes to a HUGE percentage of said "sub-par" players-the refusal to teach *anything*, just kick them? how will any of us newcomers learn?

if you want to do a speed run-find likeminded players and have fun.
but *somebody* out there HAS to have the kindness and patience, when asked, to assist a newcomer to whom this game is pretty darn intimidating! we cant learn it all by reading guides.

i PROMISE you that there are people out there who honestly do want to learn how to play their class optimally in group situations. we just need at least some small percentage of the seasoned players to be amenable to that, so maybe some newbs with potential will stick around.

Certain mechanics stopped being one shot mechanics due to ilvl increases. DPS checks were less strict. Etc.

I come across numerous DPS who simply ignore tips. Only slightly less end up being hostile when their issues are pointed out. I've had very very few who accepted advice. One even referred someone from their FC to me.
