Right before the Ifrit fight, when you are in the captured area, you actually are able to leave (with an NPC saying to gather some allies and PLEASE come back for them essentially). All adventurers you fight alongside should be assumed to have the Echo as well (as while you are the WoL of your story and the rest of us aren't, we do in fact still have the echo. You are the Chosen One of the Chosen Many essentially.)

The other soldiers who were captured alongside you are dead yes, but not the adventurers who fought Ifrit alongside you.

Also the Amalj'aa that we can ally with are looking for a way to get rid of tempering...so far no success, but it does leave open the possibility that it will be covered in the story one day as someone, somewhere, succedding.

Yeah, not finding anyone like that in Duty Finder, that's for sure. Like I said, it's a lore point that has bugged me for a while, but I do remember it being brought up. In general, though, one usually assumes Endor's moon wasn't incinerated by the destruction of the Death Star.

I highly recommend Garland Tools Database. That's where I get the vast majority of the dialogue for quote/evidence reasons.Like so:

    THANCRED
Whether she intended to or no, Minfilia neglected to tell you something─something I think it would be best you heard from one of us.
It concerns the tempered abductees that were rescued... I am sorry to report that all are to be put to death, the Flames with whom you were imprisoned included. Needless to say, this information must not be made known to the public.
I swear to you that we would not do this if there were any other recourse─but once a man is tempered, he is tempered for life. His very existence lends strength to the primal whom he cannot choose but worship.

The rest I get from watching Youtube videos of the relevant cutscenes and transcribing them.

No. To fight back, they invented the art of Summoning. Well, technically they stole it from the Meracydians, but the point is: when faced with a threat that amounts to "evolve or die," they evolved.
    About that:

    RAMMBROES
Ah, Y'mhitra! I suspected you would make an appearance before long. And I presume this fine lady is the new summoner I've heard so much about?
    YMHITRA
Yes─hopefully the first of many. Now, pray tell me, Rammbroes, has the discovery of Allagan-made evoker's attire been confirmed?

    YMHITRA
Nevertheless, I have witnessed him use the art of summoning for casual brutality, and that I cannot countenance. This power should never be employed for the sake of tyranny or personal gain; it was meant to oppose such evils.
It is our responsibility to bring this Tristan to justice. Should we stand idle, his reprehensible actions could very well stain the good name of future summoners who have yet to answer their calling. The art itself could be outlawed: the very mention of it, taboo.

    DANCINGWOLF
After my encounter with Ifrit, I learned just how devastatingly powerful these entities can be... And I believe that summoners, with their ability to harness such power, hold the potential to achieve great things.
But if Tristan truly is mad enough to summon a primal, then that unthinkable act─and the bloody deeds he performed in preparation for it─will cause people to question the motives of all who practice the summoner's art!
    YMHITRA
My studies of the tomestones revealed to me a tale of adulation: the summoners of Allag were revered as heroes for their part in defeating the ancient primals.
But reverence slowly turned to revulsion as practitioners─intoxicated by their own immense power─began wielding the art of summoning as a means to further their own selfish ambitions.
That is not to say, of course, that all summoners chose to become tyrants. Amongst the common people, however, it became a strongly held superstition that those who meddled in the powers of primals ultimately fell into the embrace of evil.
This superstition blossomed into outright terror, and that is when the mage hunts began... By the end of the Third Astral Era, the last of the summoners had vanished from the stage of history.
    DANCINGWOLF
And should we allow Tristan to go through with his plans, then we risk a repeat of that tragedy. I will review the state of patrols on the crystal trade routes─we will catch him!

    YMHITRA
I, too, would extend to you my gratitude, Forename. In addition to untold slaughter, you have prevented summoning's tragic history from repeating itself in a new age.
We must take greater precautions against this ancient art falling into the wrong hands. I will work alongside my colleagues in the Sons, and be sure that the spread of summoning is closely monitored.

It's a major recurring theme in the Summoner quest line that the long-term goal is to create a new generation of summoners to help handle the primal problem, much like the Allegan civilization had. So if you're playing a summoner, there are at least plans in motion to make it so that you aren't the only individual capable of reliably handling primals.

On further thought, those plans might be in motion even if you *aren't* playing a summoner. If Einstinein proved anything, it's that the job quest lines can potentially impact the Main Scenario even if one hasn't played said job (Einstinein was originally a major NPC in the Dragoon job quest line, and he even has different dialogue when you meet him in the 2.4 MSQ and have completed said quests). It helps that the issue of the WoL being the only viable 'eikon slayer' comes up at one point in 3.0:

    ALPHINAUD
Once more a primal rears its head, and once more the task of slaying it falls to you.
Would that I, too, possessed the Echo...

    ESTINIEN
How lightly you propose the destruction of this god, Master Alphinaud─a being of whom we know naught. Has it occurred to you that you may be sending the Warrior of Light to her death?
    ALPHINAUD
No, I─ ...You have the right of it, Estinien. 'Twould seem it is I who am guilty of presuming too much.

    ICEHEART
Wait. Forename need not face this foe alone. Like her, I am blessed with the Echo's protection, and may do battle without fear of primal influence. Let me bear this burden.
    ESTINIEN
Ha! Do you truly imagine yourself a second Warrior of Light? Remind me: how many primals have you faced, my lady?

And I just remembered, the SMN job quest line does impact the 3.0 one, if in a much less dramatic way. There's slightly different dialogue when you meet Y'mhitra in the HW MSQ if you've been completing the SMN quests.

Point is, I suspect we might be getting other primal slayers (in the form of new summoners) in the future.

It's currently my theory that Alisaie is going to be one of them. Among *many, many* other things, in Turn 12 of the Binding Coils of Bahamut, Louisoix strongly implies that the twins now have the ability to summon Phoenix-Egi, if they so choose:

Louisoix: There are records of an art that allowed one to summon the power of a primal from the essence of its demise. And though I am no true primal, all that I have left, I give to you.

Since Alphinaud has already gotten a 'power-up' in the form of Onyx Carbuncle, it's not unreasonable to believe Alisaie will get a power-up of her own in the form of Phoenix-Egi.

I also have a theory that she's going to gain the Echo (and might already *have* as of Before the Fall), and become another 'Warrior of Light' of sorts. The full reasoning behind that, however, will make this already long post even longer.

...Why do my posts always turn into these big long things!?

That's an interesting idea. The Asians make it so that the original Three (Ifrit, Titan and Garuda) and Shiva (NOT Ysayle) are summoned all at once, at the same time, and the Warrior of Light can only save one of the city states from being tempered (possibly including the leaders of the related Grand Companies)

It's probably not gonna happen, because it seems SE hates branching story arcs, and some players might not like the concept either (because then they have to build up another alt), but the concept would still be interesting to explore (maybe in an echo dream of when alt-timelines or dimensions are explored). There might even be a resistance faction in each of the cities, led by the untempered beastmen, refugees from the suddenly theocratic societies and maybe the Company of Heroes.

Or maybe the Warrior of Darkness hails form such a dimension where that already happened. Maybe the Warriors of Darkness came from alternate worlds where their Eorzea became consumed by Primals, but this is all baseless speculation (and no III does not count as a base, especially since we've already seen the World of Darkness)

Right. Garland Tools. That was the other one. I'll bookmark it this time.

And in case you missed it (I am also quite long-winded) I was saying essentially the same thing. There's a funny thing about light, though: when the sun is in the sky, it's impossible to see the stars.
