Make sure you're on your account and NOT accessing the forum on a mobile phone.

You should see an edit button on the bottom-right of your post (not the thread, your post).

Click the edit button. You can edit it past 1000 words that way. You can also delete the post that way. It will still put a placeholder telling people you deleted the post, but there's no content.
