    The Tank is supposed to set the pace, but the role of the tank isn't to set the pace after what he feels like, it's what the party is capable of. A good tank would know when the party is capable of quicker and bigger pulls. Setting the speed too low could lead to bored players and in this case it's quite obvious considering that the healer pulled ahead which would lead me to think he was either bored or just wanted a quicker run as the party was able to. A bad tank is one that doesn't know the parties limits or just cares about himself. Since I started tanking back in 2.2 I believe I've never come by a party where the rest pulls ahead of me. So in short, don't only think about yourself think about the party, think of those big pulls as a challenge instead of a mess of mobs and you'll enjoy the game a lot more.

    Tanks have a lot of pressure to conform. Comes with the territory. Take it or leave it, people will still always find something they don't like.

    The pressure of tanking is real, especially when doing a dungeon for the first time. If ppl (dps and/or healer) want to rush in and pull things, let them, they usually find out the very quick and painful truth that they, are in fact, not a tank.

    But keep truckin' don't let the acts of few discourage you from having fun and tanking.

    I don't mind it sometimes.. I am 100% of with a NIN pulling if he hits me with Shadewalker first. Don't get it twisted, though:

    If you pull, I'll make an attempt to Flash once or twice off you with Scorn, but if it's a situation where you're not the healer pulling and I need to use Provoke, I won't bother.

    Yep. I'm NIN main, but after doing and learning a lot of content as tank, my skin has grown very thick to some players. Like, I'm seriously not bothered by what they do.

    With this current generation, if a tank isn't dealing good damage while holding aggro, he/she are NOT doing their job. Sucks, though, because I'm a pure VIT-based PLD.

    I think we can all agree that in a "go slow or wipe it" scenario, the tank is completely in the right^^
    But the OP was more about preference, so basically "slow" runs with a group that could handle bigger pulls/less pauses just fine, but doesn't do them because the tank doesn't like big pulls. I queue with an FC friend from time to time, an awesome BLM. I'm a pretty good BLM too, so if we get a decent healer and nicely equipped tank, it irks me to no end when the tank pulls 1 or 2 mobs at a time. Yeah, SMN may have taken our AoE god title away, but we are still one of the best AoE classes in the game. Why are you forcing us to attack a group of less than 3 monsters? ;-;

    But of course I agree that dps/healers pulling is not the right way to communicate that need for bigger groups to the tank, although I probably did it once or twice in my life .-.
    (and obviously regreted it afterwards because I remembered how much I hate it when people do that when I tank xD)

    None of this is targeted directly at HalfLegend, he already stated on page 2(?) that he is actually not a slow tank at all, just slower than some would like it.
    I think at this point we have to make a destinction between an honest, thought-through need for bigger pulls and someone just storming off on the very first pull. The first takes the group's ability into consideration, the second is just an idiot who won't be pleased either way.

    @all the people who say "communication is key":
    Yes, totally! But my rule of thumb is to never expect anything out of DF groups ever. Never assume they will communicate their needs verbally, or discuss strategies on their own. So take the matter into your own hands right from the start and ask them. If there is no answer, they can't complain afterwards. As someone said in this thread already, a skilled tank finds a pace that keeps everyone comfortable based on the group's ability. It seems like tanks who do that rarely have others pull ahead. Well, except for the few idiots who do it regardless of what you do
    Like that one healer HalfLegend had.
