Yeah I like that too, like alot. Its just the part when they call it exploration that bothers me the most. Take me as a "yearning adventurer". I like to seek more in my experience, yeah it may be a needy concept, but its the main point of exploring, you want to be the one to discover these things.

also everyone keeps stating the obvious with the "You havn't actually seen the items or enemies so whats the big deal?" Well the big deal is, what's the point of exploring if you know whats there? There's just...a blatant wrongness about this and people don't see it, or just refuse to admit it and keep on kissing up to the devs for content. Its like a bunch of seagulls just desperate for food they just toss down at you as you topple all over eachother...lol that was mean I apologize. Maybe I am just overestimating or overreacting, but if someone can actually tell me why removing the side options bar would ruin the experience, I'd love to hear you hear you out and change my post to something more sensible to your opinion.

Well I see exploration as roughly being two parts of one whole. You've got the discovery bit, where you find new things, and you have the looking bit which is all the legwork that goes into finding those things. So I think SE's idea was to encourage us to look around the area long after we've already discovered everything, so to speak.

Still, I'm surprised those random enemy names mean anything to you. I already knew there would be monsters, gathering points and such around long before they gave me a list. Nothing's been lost for me. It's a little funny really; it's almost as if SE hands you a map to the Grand Canyon and says, "the view is amazing and you'll see all these animals like this and that and you definitely should go" and you respond, "ugh, roadtrip ruined. Thanks for that".

Without the list, there's just less motivation to take detours really. I don't really see anything gained by it's removal.

Lmao, your right a little lol. Compared to the Grand Canyon it'd seem to be a trivial matter to worry about, though this isn't the Grand Canyon as its a common tourist spot. These new lands they are sending to us are untouched and inhabited by creatures we don't know about. Like how in the world do we know that there's 8 bronze chests just sitting out there? Was it dropped by a flying air ship? -insert funny yoshi p scenario, I'm too tired to do it lol- .

The gain from not having the side bar could be put in an easy example:

Raif: Hey guys I found a chest! XD
Spaghetti: Fricken A! Wait for us, it might be a trap! :U
    Raif: Okay
Scuttlebutt: On my wa-- Oh s%#$ there's a giant monster over here! It saw us!
    Raif: Fly away dude!
Scuttlebutt: It got Dirtnugget man! We need a raise!
Spaghetti: Darn it, ok regroup! Raif, mark the map location and the rest make our way to the monster!

^ When there is no side options (assuming that there is no hidden content)

Spaghetti: Ok first we look for this monster name, Gurrr.... I miss Invader Zim. Ahem anyway all of you scout this area for it while this team go seek gathering nodes.
    everyone: Got it
    Raif: found the first chest!
Spaghetti: Nice! mark that one and move to the next.
    Raif: On it! X)
Scuttlebutt: We found the Gurrr thing!
    Spaghetti: Sweet, engage!
Scuttlebutt: Got it! ....this thing hurts. D:
Spaghetti: Ok we're on our way!

Don't see the difference? The genuine excitement of discovery is taken away when we know what to expect. The side bar of things to find becomes a task without actually being one since we know its there for optional purposes. It may be exciting to find them, but we knew what to expect from the start.

I don't think the first would happen in either case is the thing. First off, I think we'd split up to find aether currents either way so that we can start flying around; having to walk everywhere would be troublesome, to-do list or no. You'd still stop to fight big monsters whether they were on the list or not since you know there's a good chance of getting nice stuff from them; end result is you still look around for the special stuff just the same.

In reality, without the list I see the situation going like this:
    1) find aether currents, so you can start flying around
    2) With flight in hand, ignore all small fry monsters and search for the big baddies
    and maybe...
3)gather if you feel like it or have just given up on everything else/just burning time

That to-do list popping up on the screen was known to us before it even became a list. I think you're just really over selling it...

Not sure who wouldn't be excited to what they can discover in these new places without the options thing though, but that's just me. :/

I think you have to kill enemies to make the chests pop up. And I hope i have not spoiled too much with this

Nah its not that important to be considered a spoiler, but if all the chests were like this we'd just be hunting monsters for em. Thanks for sharing, didn't know about that
