Let's be honest though. I loved XI with all my heart, but 2-12 hour exp parties were not exactly "thoughtful" experiences. It was literally repetition in its most untainted form.

Rarab Mount. Yes please.

I grew way too tired of FFXI because I could never get a party. After playing 7 years, my only high level job is RDM39 and all my other jobs are 25-32. I never wanted to play just ONE job. However getting exp parties was hell. My character is now logged off for good in Qufim which I was looking for a party last time. Plus I hated the sense of no identity because my Elvaan looked like everyone else's.

if you was silent and treated ur party like npc..... yes.
if you communicated and start to talk to ur teamates, it was a blast.
Hell i remember 1 party i was in, it was the desert area killing the ant beastmen things I was dancer when it first launch and some person accidently hit the dhamel that spawns at the camp. our pld DIES and i run to raboa get /war. run back provoke the thing and tanked it, it uses second wind and gets full hp and i still tanked it keeping my tp up to self cure. This was back before dancer was updated to be able to duel weird so i was a dancer with 1 dagger. With me tanking, we killed the thing raised the pld i switched back to /nin and ppl was like 0_0 dancer could tank?!?
Could be worse. Boyahda Tree is in the middle of nowhere. Nothing like your puller accidentally grabbing Aquarius and the tank deciding it's no biggy. WHM reraise fell off some time ago? RIP Party.
I'm just glad Bubbly Bernie will continue to live on (repeatedly) through XI eventual end.

Very true, but remember that it wasn't as tedious as it is here, at least traditionally. Each mob you killed (in most non-exp farm parties at max level) was essentially an A rank Hunt mob here. Each enemy posed some sort of threat to your group if people didn't pay attention, unlike here where we sneeze and our normal exp mobs die in a group setting. Chain exp here is decent but hardly worth the while. Chain exping in XI was the equivalent of clearing FATEs for highest exp possible every 20-60sec, depending on level and group comp, which is generally something that won't happen in most zones of XIV.
The awarded exp served more than one purpose too, including points toward making your max level characters abilities/spells/traits/stats stronger. It was almost like our traditional grind in any aspect of this game, with tomes/seals/gear/etc, simply due to how important exp served there. When you went overkill on the exp parties though, that's when it got ridiculously monotonous, but those didn't really exist until max level and if you actually stayed for more than a couple hours. Admittedly, those very long hours weren't out of the norm.

I used to hone Utsusemi timing on the Steelshells that were on the top floor. I loved Boyahda (and Zi'Tah--I wish we had furnishings that were like the crystals there).

Yes! This is another great idea!
Somehow this has turned from a "lets give SE another idea for another crossover event, maybe" into a "lets bitch about xi and all its flaws" thread. You all make me sad panda and remind me as to why I avoid these forums.
Thank's for that A3S.
