The limiting factor here is balance. Sadly, Ast will always feel like whm and sch because it has to fill the same role... The same is for every tank, healer, and dps job at the moment and will continue to be copy/paste unless they change the format of the game.

AST's noct stance is not really very much like scholar at all. It's really more like a WHM where regen and medica II become shielding abilities. If you're not too familiar with the healers, this distinction is important because SCH can go quite a bit more than a single target shield and an aoe shield. Even staying within shields, they have the ability to spread a single target shield to nearby allies which makes for a very powerful party shield. And outside of that, they have a lot of oGCD instants, a fairy that heals on a separate GCD, and many many abilities that reduce incoming damage beyond just "Virus" (and AST's "Disable" equivalent).
