I like your personal idea a lot, actually.
... personally, I hope the Warriors of Darkness are just regular adventurers like us, roped into a conflict they don't understand and want no real part of, someone we could be friends with in other circumstances. Make there be no real differences between us except the god we're shackled to. (My dream of them being the lost Scions for maximum tragedy has been dashed, so...)
Though I would like to point out that when there was wild speculation about what Dalamud was in 1.0, someone managed to hit the nail on the head with their speculaton. xD

Well... maybe. The curious thing is that Derplander changed to DRG during the Heavensward FMV, but Darklander is apparently still a WAR. This is part of why I proposed a continuum shift hypothesis, but that's really complicated...At least it is 99% now that the WoD really is derplander. Puts all those CGI videos in perspective, doesn't it?
I hope it is more complicated than tempered by a primal or posessed by an Ascian. We need genuinely, but not cartoonishly, evil bad guys like Thordan. He was awesome.
Thordan was... OK as a villain. His shift to villainy was pretty well foreshadowed, and his intentions were good enough (or so he would have us believe). The main problem with him I have is that he takes far too long to step onto center stage, and by the time he does so it's not really necessary, so he antagonized us for no real reason beyond a lust for power.
No offense, but you'll have to forgive me for being unimpressed if it was after the Nael fight. He was shooting Mega Flares an' stuff...
If they got it before then, I would congratulate them on successfully making a shot in the dark.

The fact that we see both Derpy and the WoD in the same trailer with different classes is, for me, an indicator they might not be the same. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I see them as two different people. I'm actually in favor with the 'copy'- and 'just an adventurer who got dragged into the game'-theories, even though that smile from Roe-PLD is a bit too psychotic for my taste to believe they are genuinely kind people...
Let's see what 3.1 brings, its right around the corner now.
Actually, I never believed he ment well at heart. Sorry, but for me, 'becomming god king' just doesn't spell 'well-intending extremist', which would be the closest trope here, I guess. As you said yourself, he was pretty power hungry and that's never a 'good' trait.Originally Posted by Cilia

Ehh... I'm pretty sure Derplander and Darklander are different characters. Derplander continues to be our stand-in for official trailers and videos, and since our class is mutable we can't actually fight during cutscenes. Darklander is shown fighting Ravana as a WAR (in single combat, no less!), so I'm fairly confident they are different characters. The fact that we see both Derpy and the WoD in the same trailer with different classes is, for me, an indicator they might not be the same. I'm all for the "another adventurer" angle, but the "evil clone" thing would be kind of a let-down. To me, at least.
Broegadyn's smile is a bit unsettling, but we have no context for it yet. Perhaps he just likes fighting and was interested to see something new out of Y'shtola. Broegadyn Zaraki!
While his intentions were good (freeing Ishgard from Nidhogg's eternal torment), the methods he intended to use (becoming a primal and enforcing an iron rule) were not.
... a moot point, really. Were it not for his lust for power, we probably could have become friends like we did with the other city-state leaders. By the time he actually puts his plans into motion they are largely unnecessary, though, showing his true end was not to free Ishgard (since we just did that) but to gain power, no matter how he tried to justify it to himself.
