They existed, but were mostly limited to wealthy aristocrats, who had the money to pay for frequent meals of meats and other high-calorie foods. Everyone else was subsisting on vegetables and other low-calorie foods, while working they asses off to produce it. By medieval standards, there were not many fat people. Most non-aristocratic "fat" people were more likely than not very muscular beneath their girth (hee hee). Their body type just makes them look fat (see: male Roegadyn casters).

History lesson: the difficulty of getting fat in that time period is why so many works of art portrayed fat people as beautiful, since it was a difficult-to-attain ideal.

In what regard is it a PS3 limitation? Jiggle physics? Well, my avatar's boobs bounce just the same on PS4 as they did on PS3, so... who knows? I'd have to take a look at the programming complexity and see if the PS3 can handle... whatever difference it is you suggest it can't. Plus know the specs of the systems. And stuff.

Memory. Several times they've said things suggesting they're counting every kilobyte of their memory profile. Most recently they cited lack of available memory as to why Au Ra horns are tied to faces, and it's not the first time they've cited that for why they can't do something either (TP bars on the party list, among other things).

:sigh: I'd rather not say "Japanese game developer" limitations, because they can likely do it, the thing is ROI...

Since we have seen SE's existing difficulties on expanding the character creator, a fat slider is as far away as a butt slider or similar expansions to the existing races. This is also the protagonist of a game franchise well known for its pretty, attracive, stylized protagonists(read:not fat), and how many people are willing to take the plunge and edit their character to what is considered a less attractive appearance?

Im sure there are other considerations as well. Such as armor textures, emotes, and yes, jiggle physics. That's why it is far easier to introduce a fat or aging npc than it is a pc. But I'm willing to wager, both in technical design and setting, that yes, fat people can exist in eorzea. They just need to find the right side character that fits with their ideas on what a fat person does.(and therein lies the tragedy)

So why did i ask to say ps3 limitations?...because its just an easier way of saying real life dev considerations are why Eorzea lacks a feature.
