That is unfortunate. I guess it depends on the buff.
SMN example: Food effects pet secondary stats, but it was determined that the pet doesnt benefit from SPD when the Master gains SPD through Enhanced Pet even though it is a visual gain for the Master.
They changed the formula for spell speed (can't say for skill speed because there's no direct mention of it) as well in regards to pet interaction, spell speed buffs pet damage. Although when you do get the spell speed buff from your pet, it's applied to just you, not both you and the pet. It's most likely that the pet runs on their own individual stats that's based off yours as a template, but also the reason why they won't benefit from buffs like Raging Strikes or hawk Eye (because it's only applied to the master and not the pet).
Only buffs that directly interact with the pet (such as hypercharge, rouse and spur) would boost them.

My biggest beef with this job is the stationary pet. I'd like it much more if the pet works more like scholar's pet, where it can be stationary or it can follow.
I have a feeling the abomination we have today called Machinist come from the devs having a hard time figuring out how to fit reloading into the class. They must saw this gif and /agree
What they should have done instead is make Machinist more like blackmage, where the combos cost more TP, but reloading refills a high amount of TP. Or some sort of bullet gauge, like how aether flow works.
WTF were they thinking when they decided to use RNG as a primary part of the rotation?

Our turrets I couldn't really care less about most of the time, it's so... "off-to-the-side" for the lack of a better word. Sure our max dps is dependent on it, but that's to the same degree as a ninja having a poison buff active. There's very little interaction with the sole exception of hypercharge. It being stationary is fine considering you have a relatively short cooldown for replacing it anyway. The RNG is fine for the most part, their dps averages out just fine especially with the lower CD on qucik reload (although it also comes at a cost of it just being another oGCD to use without any thought, which makes the shallow ammo mechanic even more evident)My biggest beef with this job is the stationary pet. Other than that, it's a really big shame that they had scrapped so many of the intial previews of MCH (with the attachment and ammos) and we've gotten this as the end result.

Dude, I just did Steps now, and I had to move my turret like every 30 seconds. It's not a friendly feature to movement heavy battles. Or at least increase the range or something.

Makes me sad to hear people referring to MCH as an "abomination". The class has its flaws, but so does every other one. My main knit pick is that MCH doesn't give any semblance to it's full fruition until you are actually 60, which I feel staves away players and causes the stigma that we have. A lot of the people who complain about the class as a whole don't seem to have the class at 60 most of the time when I lodestone them.
I can pick off a few QOL and visual changes I'd like to see, but other than that MCH is fun and rewarding for those who give it the chance, imo.

Are there people actually going out of their way to call the job an abomination? If they are I am not seeing it, neither on forums or in game. It is the least played job, but it does not mean it is bad.
Abomination would be an exaggeration. I don't like how MCH (or BRD for the matter) turned out in the expansion, but it's functional and does it's job properly. Like I said, the best way I can sum up my perspective is that it's "disappointing". MCH has their full rotation basic rotation by the time they're levle 35 with clean shot, quick reload and reload. Everything else is oGCDs and turret placements that you put down and forget, and post 50 (in a similar sense to BRD) does not get much added, although MCH has the benefit of being an entirely new job like DRK and AST, so they've had the benefit of developing their own unique gameplay/mechanics from the time you unlock it.Makes me sad to hear people referring to MCH as an "abomination". And also, fun is subjective. Some people don't like the high-risk:same-reward aspect of MCH compared to BRD, while I feel that BRD is extremely clunky and slower paced compared to MCH while having the same playstyle

I just got my MCH to have Gauss Barrel and I am having a lot more fun compared to BRD. I'm not going to go to how different the two jobs are but I just feel like it's a lot more active playing as a MCH compared to BRD. But at the same time, the rotation is a lot more strict, so there's the pressure there.
Ever since I got Gauss Barrel, I'm seeing an increase of DPS, even if a little. I'm used to the cast bars now once I got my timing on how much time I have to do my oGCD. And most of the time, using Quick Reload and Reload nullifies the cast bars for most of the skills, so I don't really feel much difference.
Only issue I got was with my first cycle of Wildfire. I can't seem to get the second Cleaner Shot to be in the Wildfire, but that's resolved now with the guide (thanks a lot!).
I gotta say that at first when I got the class, I hated it because it felt so clunky. But then I noticed a MCH (how rare they are), hitting quite large numbers so I decided hey, let's give it another chance. I would say... I'm glad I did.
