Warrior of Darkness: alter ego or something completely different?

I believe the right example about purpose of our character being in the dark side or the light side is clearly exposed in the Dark Knight quest line. For those, like myself, who are lvling up a DRK, you know what I mean. I keep believing that the derplander and his party are representing us, the players of FF14. And my way to see the trailer about them is, from my point of view, a way to show us that it won't be the derplander and co who will do all of this : it's going to be us... And even if it isnt us directly, it will be a dark doppleganger of us who will. A set of a specific job's quest did it already at lvl 50, remember. In such trailer, they couldnt show a specific player like me or you people. That's probably why the derplander and co are in this trailer. That it's going to be us. I believe that we are going to taste a bit of our darkside... and probably change once we realise the consequences of our actions...

The dark paladin that attacked Y'shtola looks pretty demented to me. Maybe it's the same group, but the power of darkness ended up corrupting them?

And who'll attack Y'shtola, if not the Broegadyn PLD?

I consider this and this as proof, that derplander and his group are real.
To be honest THIS was proof enough for that.

I still cannot comprehend how anyone would think that this scene was just a cover-up... this is as likely as Elidibus being a lalafell in 3.1 and Niddhog getting the appearance of Hraesvelgr...
I mean, who cares what they show us in ingame-cutscenes at all ?!

I've been watching the trailers over and over.
When you see the opening cinematic, Louisoux teleports this WAR and his group(lets just call him WoD and friends) away just as the meteor drops. It then cuts to our current time, and we see them appear in a blue light. They're now here, back in Eorzea five years after the calamity in a time where no one remembers the names of the adventurers who fell on that day. Even the heads of the city states decide to omit their mention (as Alphinaud and Alisae discuss in Limsa) how would that make you feel? Knowing that your comrades in arms and countless more fell on that day only to be forgotten? Whats the point of being Hydaelyn's chosen ones if she's just gonna abandon you like that?
I could easily see the WoD and his friends slowly growing resentful to the point of them eventually going to the Ascians to lay down their swords.

This is all speculation though.

Even if I believe that Derplander and Co are representing us, I recall also saying that it could be us undirectly by the shape of dark dopplegangers. I mean, who can actually reach that close to Yshtolah if not... us ? or more exactly someone who looks like us ? "crimes" comitted by these dopplegangers would lead suspicions on us. A brillant plot for Ascians. I also remember this : all keep defining the warrior of light as a single entity and I recall Hydaelyn calling us WoL when we meet her for the first time... And to answer one remarks, I remember that when fighting a "boss" like Golem or others, SE didnt change any creature based on your race or job, huh ?
What I am saying isnt hard proof, it's just hypothesys. No need to be snide, Neophyte

Maybe it not need to be "us" as in doppelgangers, but other survivors of carteneau, or even members of the adventuring community hitting their stride. Given the existence of PvP activities, and a growing crowd of people in a mercenary profession, it may start to become a bit more competitive. You might think well of your mentors, but when it comes to vying for the same job, all bets are off. Where once we were seen as an inspiration and example to people considering adventuring, to the adventuring professional, we might be competition, or perhaps even a threat.

This. On that I agree for sure. We are seen as meat buster and not brains according to many players. Maybe SE realised it too. Why not ? why not taste the other side of the mirror ?

The derpgoon is probabaly the same symbol of the players hat he is. Perhaps the Warrior of Light is gonna be part of House Fortemps's knights? Or maybe it's a a sign that the thry are past the "Greveing for Hauchefaunt" stage and are willing to fight for his House and defend Aymeric

Breathing? I want to know what they were doing up there in the first place... There has to be some significance to them being there, I just hope it's not "Ascians = Lunarians!", one doesn't just randomly go for a lunar stroll...

Thinking about it... They're throwing a lot of Final Fantasy at us at once... At least IV, V and VI, what with the lunar surface, Krile, and Warring Triad... Heck, throw III in there with the Warriors of Darkness, though so far I'm leaning to them being more Spitewarden than Warrior of Darkness (arguably the same thing though), so that'd be a XI reference... Where are my IX references, SE!? I want to see a glorious rematch of Bahamut verses Alexander (which is already my head canon, because Alexander slowly crawling out of a river is kinda lame) come 3.4! Slap a Vivi minion in Void Ark while we're at it...

Seriously though, why were they on the moon? There were no structures in sight... They could easily have just used Ascian HQ, but they opted for the moon... Why?
