I ran into one of those ice mages before. Cast nothing but blizzard 2. I was the tank and queue with a healer in my fc. The healer told him he should be casting fire spells like fire 2 and flare for aoe pulls. His response, "blizzard 2 is more mp efficient"

Nothing we could say could convince him otherwise. The run was horribly slow. There are people who don't want to hear advice that will help them play better.

Seriously I kinda want to know what they were thinking. Is it like, "This blizzard gives infinite MP so I'll just spam this than using Fire!" or "This AoE blizzard gives infinite MP so I'll just spam this than using Fire!" or "This Blizzard IV gives infinite MP and Enochian buff again so I'll just spam this than using Fire!" ?

ice mages are very real and you honestly can't say "not even a real thing" because I HAVE seen them, more than three times, unfortunately. Ice mages is just one example of a dps player performing horribly, and you'll find more-or-less equivalent cases across all jobs. You'll get your Mudra-less NINs who don't even Huton, your Full Thrust only DRG's, your no DoTs BRDs, MNKs who will literally use ANY skill that their current form lets them, and the list goes on.

No one's bagging on people trying to learn (unless I've read wrong, and if this is true, I'll disagree with them). We've all been there at some point, and some people definitely need more time than others to get the hang of things, and there's absolutely no problem with that. Many players get past that point and become impatient with others still learning a fight, and that's not cool either (context matters here of course, like joining a clear or learning party and expecting 1-shot kills, but you do have a right to complain if someone who is still learning joins a farm party). Unless you're dealing with some serious assholes, no one is going to speak badly of you if you are making an honest effort to be an asset to your group.

The problem with "ice mages" and any variation across different jobs is that a lot of them are not trolls. Just like you say that we can't lump trolls with people who are learning, you're completely failing to mention the people that want to put absolutely zero effort into a dungeon and still be rewarded with a win, and sadly, there are a lot of people like that. We're talking about types of players whose playstyle (whether it be full on str tanks who don't have an idea of what a defensive cooldown is, DRK's who for some reason of another plain refuse to not use Darkside, is or horrible dps players) make other players in the group have to pick up the slack in order to complete a duty, and get extremely defensive when you give them advice. Those people aren't trolls. They don't go into the dungeons purposely playing as bad as they can while they laugh behind a TV or computer screen. Those are people who think that paying their monthly subscription entitles them to play however they want, consequences be damned, and that's just really not cool to their fellow group members.

Maybe they're just completely oblivious to the damage they could actually be putting out and think that the difference between spamming Blizzard and Fire are not that noticeable. I've seen people like this in Toto-Rak or Haukke Manor and after telling them what their rotation should be, the difference is huge. Some will still not listen and that's why I'm glad that the kick function exists. At the same time, while nice, it's not something you should always put up with. I remember making a levi ex farm party back at the release of 2.2 and had a BLM in one using Fire 3, waiting 4-5 seconds, Blizzard 3, and alternating like that. I just kicked him after the following wipe because sometimes, especially in a farm party, an utter lack of knowledge of your job is way too much of a headache to deal with.

It would be amusing if players who typed up these horribly petulant responses that contributed absolutely nothing to a thread, got paired up with a 12k HP WAR in constant Deliverance who doesn't use their cooldowns while mass pulling, an ice mage, and a Netflix healer. Have fun ^^

Layla, if you've never encountered a terrible player (as in, Ice Mage terrible), then you're the lucky one. All of us complaining about terrible players wish we could be that lucky.
