You're not understanding. It doesn't matter whatever decision they make the balance of the fights will be based on the balance of the MATERIA'ed gear. Meaning that you will be getting unstated gear and forced to materia EVERY slot. This is not a step in the right direction, this is a deal breaker for player's who can't afford to pay for raid food/potions already and now expecting them to buy materia that likely won't even be 100% affixable.

The only way I see meldable blue gear working is if it can't be overmelded. 29% chance of success on your 3rd meld, and you have to do it for 11 pieces of gear now? ridiculous.

Honestly I like these changes yeah it'll be like WoW where you have to buy gems but coming from an FC that we spiritbond items daily and are sitting on Vs materia I welcome this change. I'm just glad I don't have to buy pentamelded accessories or having them fail every 5 mins. There's honestly no reason to use materia right now and i'm glad that they're changing it a lot of people don't like it but as stated by Spookyghost it is going in the right direction.

There will finally be supply and demand for many crafters I know a lot of people will say it'll influence RMT but when prices drop it won't be as bad as people think it will be and gil will actually be something useful rather than sitting in your inventory buying glamours and minions.

I've no idea how you came to this conclusion. Source?

I think what he is saying is that they're essentially taking 1 step forward 2 steps back with the whole melding issue. Now instead of pentamelding accessories for optimization, we'll be pentamelding everything, with the only difference being a primary stat materia can only go in the first slot. Furthermore, this could be BiS for every job in the game, not just tanks. Its a really backwards way to solve itemization IMO.

If it broke the bank before, it'll be an economic collapse going forward.

Maybe with these changes we'll finally see some Materia that offers interesting stats such as skill augmentations.

No mention of the new pink gear, which was capable of having 3 different secondary stats in the <50 world. It was also capable of being converted into materia.

My biggest issue with the 3.0 crafted gear was the DoL and DoH red scrip requirements, as long as that goes away I'll be happier.

My main concern with this is that it is (potentially) forcing players to either level a crafter to meld their own gear, or pay for the service, in addition to grinding tomes etc. Irrespective of how the fights are balanced, the community will almost inevitably "balance" the fights in their own mind as requiring melded gear.

In my very speculative opinion, it looks like we're going to have another grind on top of getting the gear to ensure that it's melded.

It creates crafters with a purpose to make money "LF melds on my gear paying + tip" etc it's already hard enough as it is to make money as a DoH/DoL as on my server at least no one is really buying anything. Right now prices on materia are jacked up but they'll die down eventually it's not going to be a stock market crash or anything it's creating more money and gratification to actually be a crafter.

I know this is from the first page but I wouldn't be surprised if "much stronger" meant on par with current raid (or unupgraded tomestone) tier and crafted from raid/island drops. Since raid gear will be meldable (and maybe with more materia slots than crafts?) they can make crafted gear higher ilvl without invalidating raid drops.

As much as I like making my crafted accessories I still think this will end up being a good thing as far as "not having stuff to do" goes. Now there's actual incentive to go out and spiritbond stuff. Hopefully they add some new materia.
