Anyway I think anyone who has played previous FF games and then witnessed XIII and XIV has probably already noticed this change in their design philosophy.

That is unfortunately true, because Farmville success made even WoW pale in comparison (profit ratio wise, and even if you're talking about revenue, don't underestimate FV).

Every company is going into mobile gaming and applications... so it's not like any of them are going to have "an edge". There will still be a huge market for games played on typical platforms like PC and console. Im sure they will still produce games for those demographics also.

Are you insinuating that FF13 and FF14 are akin to Farmville? FF13 was a damn good game and has one of the best combat systems(if not the best) of all the FF series, in my opinion. Not really sure what you're driving at.

I liked the battle system in FFX-2, sadly because the rest of the game was not to everyone's liking, I doubt I'll see that battle system again anytime soon

As for where gaming is at the moment, sure, mobile games and the like will do well, heck, look at the Wii, that's done tremendously because of it's gimmick.

The only thing about gimmicks is they have a tendency to do well for a bit and then all of a sudden crash and burn like An Inconveniant Dodo. Examples would be: The short come-back of Yo-yo's with Pro-Yo's, the mass purchasing of scooters for kids to skim around on, trainers with rollerskates in them, Parrapa The Rappa (seriously he crashed and burned right after his first sequal XD), and of course, Limp Bizkit (though their downfall was also due to the attitude of the singer). All these had some kind of gimmick, but it didn't save them from eventually (or rather sharply) becoming forgotten.
Hopefully S.E will continue to work dilligently on quality RPG's and other games to cater for the gamers that do still want long and memorable games instead of a quick fix till the next app comes out.

You have also reminded me that I meant to go out and buy FFXIII today so I could see the afro-man with his chocobo chicks, and then make my own judgement of what I think of the game :3
