    Relic Items Easily Obtained?

    Greetings!

The entire post in it's Wall-o-Text glory can be found here.

It is in said post that Yoshida makes a comment regarding implementation items such as Excalibur (often classified as relic weapons) sometime in the far future.

It is after reading the post in it's entirety that I wonder how such items shall be obtained by the player base.

I personally liked the lore & quests associated with trying to obtain a relic weapon in a Final Fantasy title. It was a long & grueling process, but in the end I felt a sense of accomplishment because I obtained an item unlike anything else in the game (Or in FF11 terms, an item that very few people had).

That being said, how would you like these relic items to be obtained if you had a say?

Instanced dungeons? Crafted from rare items? Or that long & grueling process that gave meaning to the word "relic"? Or something else?

I liked the rarity of relics in 11, even if I never got one for myself. Having a few in your shell was something the whole shell could be proud of.

Long grueling process has my vote.

Its not relic if everyone has one.

    Ideally, I'd like either:

A: Obtained by doing a long and difficult quest chain.
B: Obtaining as a rare drop.

I REALLY don't want it to be crafted, AKA "you better learn how to craft and make it yourself or your paying ridiculous amounts of money for it".

I have to say make relics a 1-2% playerbase item again. Something that is a symbol of dedication and drive way above and beyond the norm.

They are the ultimate weapon in all Final Fantasy games more or less, and they should remain that way.

They should outclass anything else in that weapon class by a decent margin and should remain the top weapon for the duration of the game... with that being said they should be seen as near impossible to obtain. It should take a hardcore player years if they get it by themselves and it should give a hardcore guild a target to work towards (assuming you have a guild that helps get them).

I see relics as being the ultimate goal and I feel the ultimate item should not be something everyone has.

It should be a quest based item, but the quest should be something that is really hard, really long, and has significant barriers. I would like something like mythics in XI, the weapon required a lot of quest done and a lot of items collected. It was something that would take the normal hardcore player easily over a year and a half to finish.

if they ever introduce relic type weapons hopefully it isnt a lousy currency based cluster hump gathering extravaganza and instead storyline/quest/salvage-esque type of content. I wasnt a crafter in ff11 or a cut-throat dynamis leader that used people to get a relic like alot of people did or sadly enough a gil buyer w/ 5 relic weapons(alot of which got banned rofl) but at least i had a very good JP onry ls that gave me all the currency for Kenkonken(eventho i only ever got to play as Galka whm at events lol) At least once Abyssea was released i got to shine on pup and was basically forced to be pup. And ya my poor Kenkonken got replaced by Verth orz...Quested/story driven relic type weapons would be an awesome addition that could grow w/ expansions/updates and as u completed more quests/objectives.

You had help then or where very rich, the alexandrite alone would take years was what 30,000 alexandrite and you averaged 50-100 a run if you where lucky (you could buy them but in the hayday of XI they where 5k a pop so 150million gil worth) . On top of that you needed to do nyzul, all the quest, all the assaults twice, missions, kill the ZNMs actully get the drops (takes a group and prevents them from fighting a boss)

Anything is easy with help, my linkshell was producing a full relic every 1 1/2 months for awhile until the abysea killed off any form of money making. With LS help it is doable in a decent time, alone... well yea good luck.

I don't want it to be rare drop, praying for god of luck is the worst idea ever.

Make it a long term progress, kinda like mythic or relic but not so much like defending ring (taking XI's example).

I think it'd be interesting if some of the relics would be obtained by first finding it broken and have to go through multiple steps to get it fixed up as opposed to just getting it as a rare drop from a chest or mob.

For example lets say to build Excalibur, you'd have to clear a fortress of monsters to find a chest that has a chance to give a Broken Sword Hilt. It would be worthless to sell, and there wouldn't be any really obvious clues as to what to do with it. But if you talk to the right NPCs in the world, you would find out that it was once part of a legendary sword. You would also find out that you need to search for certain metals and parts in order to fix it up, which leads to more dungeon crawling and searching.

Once you've gathered the parts, the relic item may be repaired by a legendary NPC of sorts. If we wanted it to be really interesting, under the guidance of this legendary NPC it could be revealed that the relic requires multiple crafters to put repair, and this would trigger a chance to set up a group crafting session to put the item together.
