You sir, are making appropriate use of something in your actual, job specific tool kit and that's not the kind of backseat healing I'm talking about. But kudos to you for saving your A4 run. I've had so many shitty A4 runs this past week. Tanks dying when they shouldn't, dps eating too many orbs, dps blaming tanks for not eating more orbs, healers just plain not healing...but that's a different rant.
I'm talking about backseat healing when I'm actively engaged in playing, and doing something the community demands of healers - more dps. The tank wasn't in danger. The dps just took it upon themselves to top them off mid battle.
Wait, it's their job??? News to me! I had a run on Saturday where I was expected, as off tank, to eat every single orb, and called out for not doing my job as OT. ...I was happy to take the 30 min penalty.
BLMs eating 4 orbs in a row because y'know, they're super tanky. A Summoner with 6K HP (why? I dont know either), DPS dying at quarantine (don't ask me), co-healer dying 3 times in a row: all today on my 5 runs trying to get my weekly shaft. Still no shaft. You sir, are making appropriate use of something in your actual, job specific tool kit and that's not the kind of backseat healing I'm talking about. Well, OT can take some if he have free time, but spreading the damage around the 4 DPS + 2 healers is way easier to deal because it doesn't require any focused healing. I don't know what's their problem to tell the truth: they eat too many orbs or don't eat any at all. Geez.

My condolences to you. I got really lucky and got my shaft this past Sunday after my third or fourth clear. (They start to blur together...) There were eight or so abandons, and I outright quit the one where they accused me of not doing my job. 9_9
I'm gonna start trying to get my last shaft early this week. Hell of it is, this is for my alt 60...and depending on Void Ark gear I may not even NEED it...
Well, the way the fight goes in final phase is:
1. Nisi.
2. Orbs.
3. Discoid.
4. Lasers.
Each of these mechanics is discrete. Nisi is gone by the time Discoid is going out. Discoid is over well before the lasers hit. I've healed it. There's no excuse for not healing the MT through Discoid unless you're asleep at the wheel or your DPS are standing in the aoe circles. And, in the latter case, you let the dps die and keep your tank up.
But I'm a cruel healer like that. :3c
I also actually get upset when a White Knight bard runs in to SAVE ME from an orb I was planning and preparing to take, forcing me to waste an extra heal on a different target and risking taking the last hit or two from Nisi because he has to pretend to be helpful. It's 10000% easier for a healer to just eat the orbs. It's... really not hard to do.

If I'm stopping dps to heal, it means someone's slacking.
Hint: It's not me.
YES. If I'm standing extremely close to the spawn spot of the orbs, you can rest assured I'm prepared to take them. DO NOT RUN IN and take splash damage, I'm healing myself and you're a distand third priority after me and the tanks.I also actually get upset when a White Knight bard runs in to SAVE ME from an orb I was planning and preparing to take, forcing me to waste an extra heal on a different target and risking taking the last hit or two from Nisi because he has to pretend to be helpful. Also machinists walking backwards in my direction for whatever reason when I have Nisi: stop.
You guys want some cheese with your whine?
If you were healing properly, I doubt anyone would be bothering to use cross class heals.
(Ezri Teken'duis) the loldrg is not a mythical creature like chucacabra or sasquatch, it is very real
I'd apprechiate if you gave us healers the benefit of the doubt that we actually DO know what we are doing. Unless I'm dc'ing, I have a PLAN when I let the tank's HP drop.
If they drop to 100 HP, it's because I consider myself good enough to calculate the right timing to get them to full HP from those 100 before they die (granted, I only do that with tanks who know and trust me, others would be wasting cooldowns..xD).
Also, in that situation your crappy lancer/pugilist/etc. heal is not gonna save the tank anyways, simply because you do not have the healing potency to make any difference. So please focus on doing YOUR job properly, which is dealing dmg.
How fast an opponent dies is also part of my calculation, and if he dies slower because you thought your 200 HP heals would save the day, THAT actually might wipe the party later on.
Healing properly doesn't mean everyone has to be at full HP all the time (although I like to have it that way, but that's just personal preference). Healing properly means everyone stays alive and debuff-free throughout the fight.
